im sure most of you guys have seen those spud guns launch potatoes a few hundred feet. i have shot them and seen a few of them and im sure i could build one really easy, but i dont have the exact dimensions. anyone know what pvc parts are needed for one? barrel length/chamber size etc. or any tips? ive seen the instructions for sale but didnt really think it was necessary to buy them. thanks

don't use pvc, it breaks. Use abs pipe. You are gonna need a 4" chamber with a screw on cap 12"-15" long. 4"-2" reducer, 4' 2" pipe. Broom Handle, Coleman lantern lighter.
For propellant I use shop oxygen and ether. I either shoot potatoes or golf balls and use napkins for wadding.

I use aqua-net hair spray in mine, works great. And its cheap too!

small shot of starting fuild works great. I use to build them with 2" abs to a 6" chamber about 8" long. I use to drill a hole and stick one of those twist spark lighters for a lantern.

I used to sharpen the edge by beveling it all the way around, so that the tatters would peel themselves to size on the way in for a tight fit by tapping them in with a rubber mallet. I could launch tatters into the next zip code, and cheap aqua net hair spray worked the best.

The bevel of the barrel works great as does the ether (starting fluid), also you can put a screw or bolt at the end of the barrel closest the fuel chamber as a stop for loading the spuds, they work best when you jam them all the way down the barrel and this takes the guess work out of loading. One safety tip though, no matter how many of your friends and what a good idea it might sound like...DO NOT use the oxy/acetyline mix from a cutting torch. Good luck and have fun

another who beveled the tip of barrel i have a 4inch chamber on mine its about 7 inches long with the screw on cap then reduced to 1.5 inch abs.For the ignitor i got some of them lantern lighters(flint type)Add a small dab of starting fluid put cap on then turn the flint ignitor sends potatoes pretty far

buddy is a plumber and built a brass or copper not sure.it has a 2" or so barrel 3-4 ft long and a 5" gas chamber with a igniter and uses acyelene bottle.it is funny when the boys in the camp site break out there pea shooters with hair spray.he gets his out he carrries it in a ski bag and dry fires it(5-6ft flame) they put there little toys away.
