Anyone have a close up pic of the bar that hooks to the bow eye on their boat? I need to fab something up for my trailer.

I have a tunnel. I don't figure a roller would work very well, and a winch is kinda out of the question, unless it is under the bow.
Yellow Boat? Daylight? Heck, it's 8:30 AM here! But I forgot- you west coast boys are "behind the times", lol. You need to crank that clock up! :)

Heres a couple pics that I can find on my computer right now:
This is our boat, the bar is already unhooked though, but you can probably see what you need to.

Yeah it just may be. I've never had that type of setup. But the pics mcderns posted gave me some ideas, which is really what I needed. I like a winch, but also like the idea of the bar to set the boat where is it balanced on the trailer. I may build a setup using both.

The bar is a pain. It sucks having to go knee deep in the water to clip the boat on when you get back to the peir.

I have heard that they also rattle a lot because there is no tension on them. The boat actually occilates up and down rather than being held in tight.

The bar does rattle and without transom straps the boat does have a tendency to rock from lack of bow tension. My dad's Sanger has both the winch and securing bar on the front now and transom eyes on the back to strap it down. Now I don't worry at all when towing down even the worst freeways. :rollside:

I've had 2 boats with that bar and thought I was great. I use a wrap around tie down to secure the bow for trailering down the road. One of the good things about those types is that if you overshoot a little you don't bang into anything.
As for getting wet, isn't that what boating is all about?!? It's usually over 90 when I'm out.

DDave,
This is a pretty good way to do a tunnel. You've got a stop for your bow eye to hit when loading, and the winch works good too.
Hope this helps,
Ken

I never liked loading a boat with the bar. especially when there were waves coming in while I was trying to line up the bar and bow eye and getting the crap knocked out of me and smashing my fingers from the boat moving all around due to the wakes and waves hitting the boat.
with a winch, I just don't back the trailer in too deep and let the boat slide up on the bunks and then winch it the last few inches forward to the stop. The strap passes below a crossmember in the trailer so it also holds the front of the boat down against the stop.

The setup I liked the best was on my buddies boat in Wash state. It was a bar type with a chrome shock absorber angled to the front from the boweye. It took the ride on the road better and you didn't have to strap the front of the boat down for safety. Budlight
