Any AZ peeps hear a series of "thunder-like" sonic booms around 9:30 tonight? It sounded like a t-storm was coming through. No clouds in the sky though. :hammer2:

We live close to Luke but they never fly SS around the houses. Been here about 3 years and have never heard a boom.

They had fire works going off earlier around the Surprise stadium. That probably doesn't help though, just saying..... :p :)

Even in this wind? Maybe the wind carried the sound up here to N. Peoria?

While it is unusual, there have been instances recorded of lightning without any clouds, and thus thunder is a possibility. A few explanitory tidbits I just dug up.
Llightning can strike as far as sixteen kilometers away from any rainfall.
Lightning can also travel sideways for up to the same distance.
That would be 9 3/4 miles.
At least ten percent of lightning happens without clouds in the sky.
10% is more than I would have thought but I'll go with the USFS on it.

I was looking out the window for some lightning strikes. Nothing. Had to be some fast moving aircraft or maybe a meteor that got a little close? Even small ones can make some noise.

Hear them every day where I work. I don't think you would hear a series of them for a period of 15 minutes unless there was a sh!t load of planes in the sky that were all booming outside the high speed corridor. I think some heads might roll for something like that. We have boomed Laughlin area a few times as the high speed corridor runs all the way to the river and sometimes the plane just doesn't slow down fast enough :crossx:

They only lasted about a minute or two from where I was. It sounded like a small t-storm was passing through. Where is the high-speed corridor?
