Since you're ALWAYS right, I hate to tell you this, but f-14's have been out of the fleet and basically gounded for about 4 months. But, if you say you saw one, then

Maybe he was buzzed by an Iranian f-14. Did you think of that? :yuk:

:)
I knew someone was still running the f-14 because I just heard about the f-14 retirement a couple of months ago. I had to look it up again to see who still has them.
The Wikipedia says they were replaced with f/a-18e/f. Doesn't the f-18 have much less payload for armaments? I thought the newest version of the f-14 was the most powerful fighter in the inventory.
Any idea why the change?

I'll bet they were having reliability issues with the dual jets...
Wait.. that's me.

No joke: On the "last" day of flight ops of the Tomcat (nice name! ) they had a "made for the public" last flight from a navy base (Pax River, I think) that involved a F-14 taxiing by the assembled people to the end of the runway followed by a high speed, high g takeoff...Only problem was the F-14 doing the taxiing had engine problems and , knowing it may happen, was replaced by a ready F-14 that was at the end of the runway...
I've read the F-18 requires something like 40% less maintenancehours than the -14. Sure was a pretty plane, though.

I was looking for an F18 on its side and found that, did not look at very good prior to posting, yes you are right.
I usually see them on the 40 but never on rice and was surprised....

Saw a F-22 Raptor today at work this morning and a few hours later it took off with full after burners. A few more weeks until the F-35 makes its first flight

That would be a cool update for the CAF... I have spoke with a test pilot and he says it is F'ing incredible what the 22 will do..
When in a dog fight 16 vs 22 the 22 sits high then has his way....
Pretty impressive...
