Real nice. I particularly like the stock appearing motors that surprise the hell out of everybody when you hit the gas. The OEM Ford iron does not get enough credit.
Also, nice C8VE-E heads. (No, you can't see the casting number...I can just tell :D )

You are doing a fine job reminding us though. :rollside:
I agree. That is a clean motor. What power are you looking for?

thanks for the comments......
rwyyattb, adapter plates I bought because I got a better deal on a used set of chevy rewarder headers. Also may help with a little heat dissapation.
bought the adapters from Charlie evans from evans racing in ky.
I used all stainless fasteners, and powder coated most of the parts. 10 qt oil pan is from dooley enterprises. That was recommended by tim spears of pro boat in GA.
Pwr? Hoping 550-600 range. I do have a dyno near by thats going to be online very soon. I was going to try and figure horsepower based on the
impeller in the pump and RPM the boat is turning.

Nice motor!!!
Jegs Christmas catalog has a Ford 514 w/SCJ aluminum heads that cranks out 625HP @ 6250rpm and 600 ft/lbs of torque @ 4800rpm for only $8881.99.
Seems like a fair prpice to me. :)

Motor looks sweet. I myself like the stock look to it as although my motor is not as powerfull it makes people look twice once it fires up. Thanks again to Lakes for the build.

To the poster's new motor (E514jet). Very nice.
Also to rwyyattb with the 501 turning 5500 rpm I'm impressed. What make and size impeller are you running? Any speed numbers to go along with the RPM?
i'm liking it a lot :D post pics of it once in the boat.. can you get a pic of the alternator mounting, mine is looking kinda of shabby and was looking for ideas
This setup works pretty slick. The best part is........no more prying on the alternator housing to adjust belt tension. Just adjust the turnbuckle. It's been on the boat for about 7 or 8 years and works great. Best of all it's simple and cheap.
The first one shows all the hardware needed.

This is a photo of the original setup (four point mount) before I switched to a rail system .
http://jetboat.homestead.com/files/alternatormount.jpg
This is one after switching to the rail system. Same hardware in a slightly different configuration. It cost me about $10.00 in hardware. The turnbuckle was about $6.00 at a local hardware store.
Basically the alternator pivot point bolts to the head using a spacer (kinda have to play with the spacer thickness to get it right for belt alignment). Drilled and tapped the motor mount (four point) for the turnbuckle end hardware. On the rail system I just used a longer pillow block bolt on the plate and connected to that. The rest of the hardware is just bolts, nuts, washers and a couple of brass bushings in the eyelets of the turnbuckle so there's no slop in it.

Jim, aftermarket cast crank, 6.700 eagle rods, JE dish pistons to keep the compression down, lunati 31605 cam (615/622 lift with 1.73 rockers 245/255@50) , Iron C8VE-E heads upgraded with the bigger valves with some porting and bowl blending.
Hotdogz, You can build that motor for alot less with a few friends in the motor
business and ebay:)
rwyyattb, like your set up in the pic. I like that same K&N filter. I'm thinking of running the same one...
Squirtcha, Nice alt set up. I'm going to use a turnbuckle on mine when i set it
on the motor too...E

I'm in the process of restoring a 1978, 19' Trophy Custom jet boat.It has a 460 bbf.I'm also in the process of building the motor.Your motor looks real nice.My boat came with all the Harman built engine stuff.I have the same front water pump cover and motor mounts.I can't wait to polish all that stuff up and see how it looks.I believe all the Harman stuff on my motor came original in 1978.Keep the picture coming!

Tcrush, thanks.....I have found with other race motors I have built and engines in general look great with the bling bling of polish and chrome but,
keeping it nice and polished is a bear. I prefer powdercoating on most parts now as it it very easy to rinse off and wipe down as well as a hard protective coating and looks great!.........E

You might also think about front cover like this one on my 514.Although you mainly see them on v-drives you just have to put a coverplate on where the cam driven water pump goes.It is designed to bolt a moterplate right to it.

I think you'll turn out to be ballpark right for the HP. I play with DD sometimes too much, and put a shot at building yours, and without real accurate head flow data (who knows how close this file on Ported DO's is, D0's are supposed to be the same casting configuration, so, it's as close as I can get) I turn up with 514/515 HP from 5500 to 6-grand, 528# torque at 4500. My guestimate at CR set you at 10:1 too.
Looks sweet, I bet it is a blast once you get it all up and running, Congrats. I too like the "sleeper" motors that don't look like anything special, till they shock the folks as they are going by.
