Anyone have experience building a 427 stroker motor stroked to 4"? Or does anyone have a parts combo for one that will get me to 400 Horse?

Exactly what is it you have & want? Is this a monster small block or a standard 427 big block? I'm running a VERY (close to) stock 454 making right on 400 HP, with absolutely nothing fancy to it. For a small block, it's gonna be a different story. Better (or worked on) heads and I'm likely to see 500 horses on my 454, no other changes at this point.

are you gonna run piston return springs and roller fuel line? I here these are good for at least 50 extra ponnies. lol :crossx:

Are you wanting to stroke a 427?..or stroke a motor to 427?...

I believe that he's referring to a 427 SMALL BLOCK CHEVY which is a 4.125" bore with a 4" stroke.
Jetaholic, this thread might be better off in Gearheads.....

LOL yeah posting it here was actually an accident. But when I went to delete it so I could move it, there was no option to delete it lol.
But...
I'm actually referring to a 454. Ironman and I were talkin' and when I looked at the specs for a 454, I realized that a 427 and a 454 use the same block with the same bore, just with a different stroke. So I told Ironman "So, a 454 is actually a 427 stroker motor!" We thought it was funny so I posted this thread to see how all of you have your 454s built, but I just called it a 427 stroker. When people hear that it's a stroker motor, it gets their attention. LOL:crossx:

I'm running all my original pieces, cast crank, factory pistons with ARP Wave-Loc bolts, Comp all-billet timing chain set, custom Isky hydraulic cam from Hi-Tech, stock '049 heads, Edelbrock Performer RPM Air Gap, Lightning headers, 700 CFM Holley 4150, original prestolite points ignition, stock oil pump, stock long slot rockers, poly-locks. 400HP flat at 5-grand, 8.?:1 compression.
The chrome timing cover and oil pan are new, as are the ARP main studs, the factory windage tray is not.
With better (or worked on) heads, There should be arround another hundred horses in there, without roller fuel line or heavier piston return springs.
The next rebuild (in a few more years) will have a budget to boost the CR to something less anemic.

The reason it caught my eye is b/c I have a Factory Five Cobra sittin in the garage powered b a 427 Stroker motor....so I thought id see what was up...I had thought about building the exact same motor to put in the Carlson...but went w/ the 455 instead

Mine will have TRW 9.5:1 pistons (can't remember the dome thickness), ARP Wave-Loc bolts, stock crank, Isky cam from HTP, RPM Air Gap, Bassett long collector headers, 750cfm DP 4150, MSD ignition, not sure on the rockers and oil pump yet, and poly locks.
Which cam grind are you running in yours?

Hey jet a destroked 454 is 427, just use a 396-427 crank 3.76, you can turn some r's if done right.

Yeah I know...I just posted the thread as a joke...when you say "It's a stroker motor" it makes it sound like it's beefed up.
I wonder how many other GM motors were "factory stroked".

I hear you and Vin-Dog are planning a Havasu trip sometime in March. I'm hoping to have my boat done by then...once she's done at the glass shop I gotta completely rig her up, then she'll be going to the interior shop for about 3 weeks after that, so hopefully she'll be ready by then.

IF you have open-chambered heads like my '049's or '781's, it'll take a 22cc dome to get 9.5:1, also assuming the pistons come to a 0 deck height and a pretty comon Fel-Pro gasket thickness of .039". That's into a 122cc chamber.
My cam is .565" lift, 280* duration with steeper ramps to get the valves open and shut as fast as possible.
