I replaced the Thorough"dead" v drive in my boat this week, zoomed into the 80's with a Casale, heheh.
The Casale case and mechanical tach drive are about five inches further forward than the old v drive. The interior won't fit unless I remove the tach drive, so I'm gonna take out the Jones and switch over to an electric tach.
Can you guys give me a recommendation on a unit that will hold up to the pounding a flattie puts out? If possible it needs to be the same dash hole size too.

I just noticed you have a Century Arabian. Is it a V-Drive? What motor and what year is it?

AutoMeter pro comp is your best choice for electric but I've seen them break in flatbottoms too. Jones mechanical is still your best bet if you can adapt it to work.

Just another bowrider, but the quality is what you would expect from a Century. It has a Merc 7.4 carb motor, does around 55 MPH which ain't bad for a stock 24 footer. Has a big deadrise so it rides real nice.
I got it from a bankruptcy deal in '97, smokin' price and still had a new boat warranty.
I always admired the old Arabians and Coronados, nice boats. Too bad Century quit the pleasureboat market.

What are you going to do with the aero v drive?? What gears are in it?? I've got an aero in my old 68 hydroflite and am sorta restricted with only the 12% gears.... I'll pay to ship it, and get the junk out of your garage!!...Moneypitt

It has 15% gears, plus I have another set of unknown ratio along with a complete unit I bought from a guy for spare parts.
I also have some unused prop release dogs and assorted other parts, a real gold mine (LOL).
Send me a PM if this is making your heart beat faster. (j/k :D )

I use an Autometer ProComp II with memory, I've had it for 10 yrs no problem, just don't mount it solid, use the rubber mount that it comes with!..

Autometer backs their products up big time. I wouldn't buy anything else.

I replaced my Jones with an Autometer. It fit the hole great. Have not stress tested it yet but it sure looks nice. And all of the other autometer gagues were holding up A OK.

Ohh Dave,
I see a little tale tale sign of a blown injected motor in the upper right of your pic....is that out of your old hondo?

Hey Dave, nice to see the project is coming along. You are gonna have a sweet ride when it's done.
What's the red button next to the tach? Panic button? Ejection seat? :D :D

Hey Ron,
Had your rump thumper out lately? I've been thinking about using a digital tach. No needle to bounce around. What do you think??

Went out Sunday, the water was sorta rough but still had the YeeHaaah goin' on. :D :D
I dunno about a digital tach in the sun, might be hard to see.
