Shrouded Valves

I know this may be a rookie question but what does it mean when someone says unshroud the valves. What makes valves shrouded and how do you unshroud them?

The edge of the combustion chamber or cylinder wall makes a shroud around part of the valve when open. Potentially blocking flow.
