I have been toying with the idea of getting a Lotus Elise/Exige and was on this forum reading about them when I came across this disaster.

A brake shop didnt realize the engine was farther rear or what?
Took off the front tires and the balance act was all over.

Damn...
Its like when I took my fiat in for new tires... I told them atleast 4 times that you can't use the frame lift... theres no frame, you have to to use to use the drive up... they were driving it up on the normal lift when I saw it.... and ran out and stoped them...

oops, if this were Jiffy Lube they would have just picked it back up and hoped nobody realized.

I can tell you beyond any shadow of a doubt that a "frame lift" as you call it, it totally appropriate for your little Fiat Spider. All uni-body cars have specific stong points that you lift them by. Just need to know how to recognize them.

actually in this case if you used a frame lift with out the correct ends on it you would crush the lift tabs. since I highly doubt that they have the right ones...drive up only.

I spent 13 years in a Fiat/Datsun repair shop(yeah, wierd combo). We had several different styles of lifts and NONE ever did any damage and each had a different type of lift arm. Its about knowing what you are doing.

You think a guy making less then $20/hour installing tires is going to know what they are doing?
I had to fix 2 of them after that vist...
so you want to buy a '73 with just under 63k miles + a truck load of parts???( lets just say I bought a new toy...)
Sorry had to.

That Elise is almost as small as a Rhino. But I'm sure you Rhino-clones (clowns?) think a Rhino is more fun that the Elise

It probably isn't as much fun. That is, if you call sucking down your life partner's man-ranch "fun".
A gayer car has never been invented.

We looked at the Elise too.
Really nice.
The Thousand Oaks dealer has just about every color and option on the lot.
The ride a bit rough. The seats rugged to say the least.
The handling incredable.
The most fun car I've ever driven.
It's a true enthusiasts car.
If it were just me I'd get it, but the wife like'd the S2000 and the 'vette for the comfort.

I drove an elise for about an hour. I sold a Ford GT and took the elise in on trade. Even though I have lived in this small town my whole life I got lost going back to the dealership with the trade.. lol. It is like driving a go cart on the streets. A stiffer ride than the mini s I owned. But they drive alot alike. Now the GT, that is a car.

(I heard they were wild little rides)
But you didn't hear that from me. I will be over here making fun of their masculinity... or lack theirof... ;)
I heard they come with a matching purse and lipstick. :D

Had a TC Europa for years. Low enough to drive under a semi trailer, handled like a roller skate on rails. I suspect these things do too. I haven't been close enuf to one to check it out. So it's Gay, huh, Wes?

Well... it's not masculine. ;)
Just look at it. It's cute. It reminds me of all of the middle-aged bald guys in Miata clubs. Sure, the car handles nice... but they chose it as the vehicle of choice for Corky Romano for a reason... know what I mean?

I drove my buddies Modena 360 a couple of weeks ago and was blown away. I can not dish out that kind of money for a weekend ride so I thought the Lotus Exige would be a good compromise. I will be interested in what Lotus has to offer now that they are on the rise again as a car company.

I'm just talking out of my ass. I don't really like the kit car look of the Lotus', but they are truly the greatest handling street cars of all time. No question.
I saw one the other day downtown San Diego outside the window of the restaraunt we were eating at and no joke, two gay guys got in the car after walking down the street hand in hand. Whatever opinion I had of the vehicle was cemented that very second.
Of course, Audrey after seeing the car for the first time said "That is a weird looking Ferrari..." It definitely looks exotic, so does a Segway if you think about it... :D

Get that Segway going about 80-100MPH and hook a turn, you pick right or left.
Let me know how that works out for you.
Wear a helmet though...I still need your business.

I agree it has a "Kit Car" look and that is a downside in my opinion as well.

Yeah,, kinda the kit car / MR1 look.
In the UK, they often put much wider rears wheels and tires on them and a few other soft changes that seems to change all that.

Cool little cars that handle amazingly.
Needs more HP to be truley exciting.(I think it has what 195HP from a Toyota 1.8L)
250-280HP would be fairly exciting in that light of a car.

Not sure about that Wes :shift: .
My neighbor has a dark green Elise , it's pretty small and looks like an insect from every angle. He had two Lotus Europas and sold them to get this thing. It handles pretty good but short on power :( . Friend of mine has a Cobra kit car he built and a Caterham Lotus with the 2000 Toyota [ 1200 lbs with 150 HP] engine . He likes the Caterham best :)

Nope.
It's in my son's copy of Road and Track.
One new model is the Elise Exige it has 240 hp.
The other is the Elise GT 2871 R and it has 380 hp.
The Exige looks like the base model with a wing. I haven't seen the GT.

I think that is the standard model with the Toyota Celica GTS motor. It pulls alot of G's and is really light but it is slower through the traps than my girls 19,000 03 Dodge SRT-4 was. I think with the extra 60hp the car would be pretty exciting.
Either way I would love to drive one around a tight road course.

What I really like driving around is another friend's 68 Lotus super 7. It has the Cortina engine ,120 HP [ the Cosworth is much better ] but with a weight of only 1190 lbs it's still a sprinter and handles like a go-kart .
