Need advice on buying a jet

I'm new here.....and sort of a rookie to this way of life. My dad used to race around the illinois area with a 1974 Sanger V-drive witha 468 named Running_on_Empty back in the late 80's and early 90's.
Right now i'm really hot on buying a boat....my heart says v-drive....my budget says jet, so i was wondering if somebody could tell me if this is a good deal.
The boat is a 1978 sanger superjet......tandom trailer...original paint....not a bad hull from what i see in the pics. It has steering...gauges....tanks....and the stringers are good. It comes with a partially put together ford 460..or he has a 390 that needs rebuilt..and he says the jet is ok...??....It needs interior but the seats are there. He wants 2,ooo for it? Is this boat worth buying?

What's your budget?? There is a nice, clean turn key V-drive flatty Eliminator in the spam section for a good deal.
That sanger sounds like it could need alot of work. You'll have more into it come summer time than what a turn key V-drive would cost you.
If you are set on a jet, I think you can find a turn key one (like 396 Spittin's Kachina) for a good deal as well. Others are available too.

Thats not a bad deal. Is it paint or gelcoat?? Can you get us some pictures???? What all is included? Please answer these questions so we can help you a little better:)

I've got the ****ing fever for these boats....i've had it since i was five.....and this summer i will have one.
Let me know what you think about that boat quick jet.....i really do want a v drive....but i have a 1964 ford galaxie i'm working on too....and fininishing a 73 vette......money is tight.....

My dad had a 77 mantra jet before he got his sanger v drive.....said he had some problems with sand and such getting into the motore.....and if the motor quit the steering was gone.....I just really have a passion for these boats.....i love the way they look....i don't really want something super nice because i'm 23 years old and i'll probably **** it up.....hopefully not but lets be honest. How much does it cost to rebuild a berkely jet....or how much should you pay for a used one?

Alright, this is definetly a project. Depends on what your willing to spend and how much you love the Sangers. You will likely not recoupe your investment if you sell. Nature of the Old School thing. Offer $1500 and see what happens, but only if you have time and money to invest. Got to lose the mirror and swim steps though.
Color sand gelcoat $500
Repaint tapefaids and R&R $3500
Interior $1000
Rebuild the Ford 460 $1000-$3000
Misc. $1000-$2000

he said the ford was rebuilt on the bottom end....if i put the heads, intake and carb back on....he said it would run.....i've got some people up here who might be able to recover the seats for 150 a seat...not bad...now with the gel coat? what is that? is that the way to paint it? by tape fades do you mean stripes? How much do you think your sanger is worth....if you don't mind me asking.....and what year is it?

The gelcoat is the yellow color. It is a resin paint mixture similar to powder coating, think and durable. Sanger painted the tape fades/stripes on top of the gelcoat, laquor from the factory. I'll e-mail you with the rest on mine.
