Running pistons out of the hole. I redecked my block to remove the orings. The previous set of copper gaskets leaked water enough to milk the oil. Lukily on the last run of the season. I went with cometics and they said make the deck smooth. This put the dished pistons 20 thou out of the hole.Cometic rep said I could compensate with the gasket to maintain the same height. this is a blown 572@ 7.5 to1 jet boat lake delio. Runs about 11-14lbs of boost depending on what fuel i use. I am looking for an opinon from our seasoned builders. Thanks,Chris

Cut the pistons .020 and be zero deck. Hope you are steel rods.

Oliver rods, steel/ forged. If I cut the 20 thou off will a rebalance be needed?

No need for rebalance. Don't worry about it if anything it would be a slight overbalance which is fine. Chuck them in a lathe and face them .020.
there will be a little less dish that way, so your comp. ratio will jump a little.

I think they are afraid the piston will be damaged by sticking out too far above the deck. 20 Thou above deck.

This will net .038 piston to head clearence. Sounds way safe with a steel rod to 6500 rpm
