looks like sandrash or normal sh!t we pickup running across the lake. If that center area looks like its ground out then I would suspect the impeller is flexing and hitting the bowl!

it is rubbing on something. It does not look to bad in the picture. It could be grooved.

Impellor nut tight? Tail bearing look ok? Whats the thrust bearing feel like? I remember a large C clip in front on my thrust bearing when I rebuilt my F pump. Maybe it came off? Just thinking of serios ideas now.....

Do you have any shims in front of your impeller?

It is Fine nothing to worry about !!!
Hard water always polishes that circle into the bowl.
There is no way the impeller can touch that part of the bowl.
That is why a stuffer is used to fill that gap behind the impeller.
There is lots of water moving back there.

It's from cavitation between the bowl and the impeller, as ST said a stuffer eliminates this.

Very true!

Not true! Mine did because it was flexing so bad it started chewing up the stuffer! But then again half the impeller was cracked...;)

Do you have any pics of how you went through the stuffer and into that area? That would be a sight to see!

OK with a impeller that is in good working order as well as a good thrust bearing, there is no way for that to happen. :yuk:

The impeller is definitly not hitting the area in mention. That is cavation burn from the water. Very normal. The veins need to be dressed with a hand grinder or file. Check the wear ring & leading edges of the impeller. Looks like a well used pump. :)
