Cool deal, I have almost the same boat. Mine is a '73 with the JC pump and no open bow. That open bow I'm sure was custom done as I have seen a few of these Kona's now and none have had one. Looks like yours didn't stray far from it's original home either, I bought mine in Westminster a few blocks from where the factory was. Garden Grove is right there as well. Got mine on Ebay for a cheap price as well. These old Kona day cruisers don't get the big bucks or much attention, but they have one of the best shapes in my opinion. I'm still in the process of restoring mine and have yet to take it out so I don't have any feedback on hull performance on the Kona, but my buddy who has the same hull made by Charger loves his.
Here's how mine looks so far.

thanks Myoung I noticed that JE pump I am wondering If a setback Jc pump will leave enough room in the engine bay. all i could find out about these hulls is that they are heavy compared to others this one was built by MAKAI BOATS INC,8601 EDISON AVE, HUNTINGTON BCH, CA, I haven't picked it up yet but the first place it is going is to tom papps shop to see about installing my other pump and a rail kit for my 514. I hope to make a nice cruiser out of it my southwind is to small 2-3 people + cooler this should seat family and friends more comfortable now I am curious about that front seating

Great boats, I really love mine! Nice ride especially in the rougher stuff. Mines a '78 but it looks like the same bottom.
