Looking at a used 2004 V-10 4x4 with 40k. Any issues with the V-10? How is the power? The numbers for Tq/hp don't look too impressive for a v-10 motor. What about the tranny?
Thanks

I have a 2000 v-10 with 105K and the only things to go wrong so far are the door lock acutators (50K), and the shifter cable (80K). If you tow something heavy put air-bags on the rear.

02 F250 4x4 crew cab. 145,000 miles .strong as an ox. I tow my 22' boat with it and I have a 30' trailer. still good stuff.

The V-10 is a nice motor. They are puting them in motorhomes. I have 130K on my E350 van with the v-10 and it runs strong. The only issue I had was the Mass Air-Flow Sensor...and that only needs to be cleaned on a somewhat periodic basis.

I think '04 was the last year for the 2 valve motor - no major issues. I used to have an '01 F-250 with the v-10 and I had no problems in 4 1/2 years.

personally, id go diesel. better mpg when towing. i know a guy that bought a v10 in September.he came out of a diesel. after the first desert trip he wanted to kick his own as. there a good motor but not as good as diesel.

I have an 03 cc v10 4x4 and am totally happy with it. Just dont expect a 7k lb vehicle to set any mileage records and you'll be fine. I tow a 25' boat with mine, drive it and you will have your answer.

Don't need a diesel and they are not worth the extra $5-10k they are getting for used ones. My boat only weighs 6-7k loaded. I'm looking for a good deal on a used and the v-10 Excursions are cheap. Thanks.

Not looking for mileage, I know it is around 8-11 mpg. Thanks for the input.

Is that bad or good?

No. Not bad. Like I said I had an '01 2 valve and it was awesome. I'd still have it if I didn't need 4X4. My '06 is a 3 valve-a little more hp and torque. Just stating a fact. Good luck with your decision.

Thanks. I didn't know that they changed the motors.

Our 2003 V10 4X4 has been great, 58K miles. The CD changer crapped out and the locks have acted screwy a few times. Mechanically - haven't even tuned it up yet (though it is running a little rough and could use one).

I have a 03 250 V10 great motor the early ones 99-2000 had some issues with spark plugs being spit out but the 2001 to present the issue has been resolved, longer threads I believe. IMO If it's a good deal grab it the motor is very strong. Good luck, and yes I would buy another V10 in a heart beat, and yes they use the shit out of the V10 in motorhomes. Good Luck

over 200K - no majors motor or tranny. Mostly soccer mom duty. I looked at those not too long ago but decided on a different direction.
Good luck

I have had three of those motors and loved them all!!!! I wish the crapin Ford I just bought had one. I searched high and low and no luck. There is a bad ass one that is an 05 and Valencia Ford. They are asking 29 which probably means less than 25. Has a mello lift and is way clean. Check it out at traderonline.com.

Too bad, I just sold mine with 58K miles. I put the K&N filter and Gibson exhaust and got 11 mpg towing and 13 cruising back and forth to Vegas. It was the best vehicle I ever owned.

Just ran across this one and was not really looking. What did you get for yours?

Thanks. Must have been a 4x2?

I forget I have my boat behind me on the flats, and it gets 10-11 mpg towing all day. It is the 4x4 01 excursion.
On the grade from the desert to San Diego, it works a little to stay at 55, but that is fine with me.

They are good engines. They like to rev, are very smooth, and get decent economy for what they are.
I have the very first year V-10 in my 31' Class C motorhome. E-Superduty with only a 265 HP (first version, 275 in trucks) until 2001 then a jump HP to 325 I think. New engines 05 and up are 3 valve head motors and go real well with over 360 hp.
I have 65K miles on my Class C. Doesen't sound like much but considered it's loaded to the GCWR of 20k whenever we roll I say its pretty tough. E4od included. No issues.
One other thing...NEVER a ford related issue with this and were at 8 years old now with exception of the HOLY MOLY stated mass air meter. Over oil a K&N air filter and you get to clean this thing every 5k miles. Learned this the hard way.

I have a 03 F-250 4X4 with the V-10 and I love it. No problems with it. My pops has the same truck but a 4x2. He has around 70,000 miles on it and it has never been in the shop for anything other than oil changes. He tells me it is the best truck he has ever owned. He also has a 30' MOHO with the V-10. Plenty of power and no problems with it either.

I have an 01 F350 CC4x4 with the V-10, 107,000 miles and it's only seen the inside of the Ford garage once for a front hub. Mine gets used and abused, it doesn't even feel the 22' boat or the 14' box trailer. Mileage is slipping right now, I guess at 107,000 miles aguy really ought ta do a tune up.
