Looks like they figured alot of people use this road during the weekends.
That road closure was ganna cost us an hour every thime we went to Ocotillo.
State Route 78 through Scissors Crossing to Imperial County will remain open to motorists without
restrictions on weekends (Fridays at 4 p.m. through Mondays at 6 a.m.) as work continues on safety
upgrades to the San Felipe Creek Bridge. The bridge is located about 20 miles east of the town of Julian.
Motorists can expect delays of up to a half hour if they use the highway on weekdays
from 6 a.m. - 4 p.m. One-way traffic control will allow motorists to pass through the construction zone
during this time.
This work schedule can begin as early as Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007 but is contingent on the possible effect
of weather conditions on the new concrete. The plan is to complete the project by mid March.
Caltrans worked closely with residents, business owners and off-road vehicle enthusiasts in modifying a
plan that calls for spending additional money to accommodate the need for travel through the area, and at
the same time allow work on bridge safety upgrades.
Motorists are advised to make sure their vehicles are in proper working condition and to drive with
caution through the construction zone as the lanes are narrowed, but still wide enough to accommodate
all vehicles.
Motorists are also encouraged to explore alternate routes to their final destinations before leaving home
if they feel unsure about using SR-78.
