I just realized he must have gone across the culvert from the other side, as if stopping right on the edge of a cliff wasn't pucker factor enough! Yikes.:jawdrop:

Look at the first pic...where the truck came through the barrier where the peeps are standing, across the storm drain (how?), and onto the other side. All the wile escaping a sure fate of the grim reaper.
Amazing and yeah...play the loto.

If we could see the skidmarks on the highway they might tell a story. I would guess: He/she looped it and hit the guard rail going backwards, slid along the guardrail, (see broken post just above truck), somehow hung up on that post, and did a slow rollover to where it landed. (See the pile of belongings to the rear and under the truck that probably fell out during the rollover). I don't think you could get any luckier than that!!!!!!!!!!.................MP

Close, but there is too much front end damage.

I would say the truck went through head first and did a cart wheel in the ditch. Notice how the front left of the truck is really smashed in (why I think cart wheel) and there is a piece of the truck in the ditch. It would have landed backwards after the cart wheel.
Where are the crash detectives on this board? :D

I would also say it was the ditch that saved thier lives.

Truck traveled right to left. The jersey barrier folded over, making the guardrail a launch ramp. The truck corkscrewed through the air, landing nose first between the road guardrail and secondary rail, hitting posts, and rolled down to its resting place.

I don't think the truck ever hit the culvert. There aren't any tire marks, concrete doesn't appear to have any damage (pic 3). Wood splinters and truck parts in pic 2. The truck stayed toward the top.

I don't think the tires ever hit either. I think it pogo sticked off the front end.
Go Indy. :D

I think you called most of it...damage from the front end I think came from the concrete barrier he smashed through. Did an axle grind along the guard rail and popped off, did a 180, and stopped.
Anyhow....I agree freaking lucky bastard. Look at that front wheel. Cheated death big time.

Thats assuming 2 things.
1. Depending on the year, the truck might have ABS, and not have left any skid marks.
2. You're assuming that the driver was awake or ever had the chance to and did hit the brakes.

Backwards, yes it will. ABS doesn't know direction, it knows the difference if the wheel is turning.

WHY ARE ALL THOSE FIREMEN ON THAT LITTLE NARROW SIDE
One slip and they are done and they have no safety gear on in the event that occurs

There is no reason for them to even be there.
The vehicle should be secured, and anyone over the guardrail should be on a safety line.

The vehicle is secured. There is a safety cable running from the cab up to the gaurdrail. The passenger door is also held shut via rope or wire.
Is this a real photo? Does anyone from Arizona know this area?
Kinda strange.
