Hondo built them also and that is what it looks like. That H.I.N. is not a standard USCG format and I checked the MIC and this is what it came up with. It's a state issued HIN. Apparently, it didn't have one or maybe a little hanky panky.

It could be the boat didn't have an ID because it was going to be a race boat only. If that's the case, it wasn't registered until some time after it's build date. Since there would be no record of it, DMV will register it as homemade.

So now I see it is technically a Hydro by all means of the word 3pt.
Now if you would have posted this 3 years ago we would not have had all the fun.
It still needs to cary the nose a hair higher I think. But not as high as the Sanger.

the boat came with a big block chevy with a blower and nos ..very fast ..it now has a fresh and fast 454 with manly heads ,offy 360 turbothrust tunnel ram.with holley 780 double pump carb.
I guess he meant when he got it, it "came with".
I know that's what I would do if I bought a boat with a blower motor in it..............get that danged blower off there and replace it with a single carb!

Possibly, but I have 17 drag boat hulls sitting around my shop right now and every one of them has a hull number from the builder. Who knows, and I guess, as long as the paper is legit, it doesn't matter. Just kinda makes you wonder. I've been in this business for a long time and usually when I see something like that, a flag goes up and you wonder why. No biggie.

Not sure why it is Garry, but California seemed to be real quick with the assigning of "California Homemade" paperwork.
I remember when we first started running the MIC thing for new guys on RJB, Banderlog board etc (10 years ago or so). Lots of boats in Cali would come up this way. We saw others too (including some in Arizona, Oklahoma,Texas) but California was most prevalent for some reason. It seems that if for any reason the original paperwork had gone missing, or the HIN numbers were painted over etc., they would automatically re-register the boat in this way. It must've been easier for the state to do it this way, rather than try to track down the correct information or something.

In Texas, it nearly takes an act of congress to get paperwork on a boat with even questionable numbers. Game warden has to come out and do inspection, all kinds of crap. I use to sell some JBE hulls back in the 80's up in Ok. and had hell with MSO's and titles because JBE's HIN didn't follow USCG format. Had to get affadavits stating that the numbers were correct and not typed on the MSO incorrectly. When I moved to Texas 18 years ago, I sold a couple here and TPWD never caught the error in the HIN format.

I know what you mean by the red flag. I've had a couple of boats and trailers myself that were registered with the Homemade numbers. As Squirtcha said, it's pretty easy to get a boat or trailer registered here in CA with that "stigma". The 2 I purchased had a pretty good paper trail one of which dated back to the original owner. Apparently the boat hadn't been registered in a few years and one of the owners filled in the numbers and did a repaint. That is another reason why a lot of the boats get the homemade deal.
Still not 100% sure why that one was ever changed from the original numbers though.

Diamond boats out of Carter Lake IA. had boat with home built VIN's, they were copies of Raysoncraft boats. Also very limited production, so maybe they were never required to provide info as a manufacter.
This boat looks to have most, of the latest trick stuff, the word JET HYDRO is a "phobia" here on ***boat. I would lean toward the Sanger, or a splash of a Sanger, look where the sponsons blend in to the side of the boat, and the shape of the top deck to the nose. The sides differ a little, but hense the term splash, 20% difference and your good to go. Popcorn please!

Okay, I hear crickets now that the owner has arrived. LOL. You should tell us about it and end all the speculating. You never, know, somebody here may buy it givin the right info, like who built it it, how did you get it, hows the pucker factor on the ride, how fast? etc. Most importantly, are you willing to take old dismantled Sidewinders in even trade? :)

It`s a Hondo for sure. Be careful on here as you already have 2 strikes against ya. 1. you own a Jet Hydro 2. you have a boat for sale on E Bay. The "Hot Boat Drama Club" will be along shortly and hammer ya hard so be ready for it.

Not Hanson. Got it. welcome to Hot Boat. Similar sentence structure to Hanson in that one post threw me off. No offense intended. Just being a smart ass. Really, It looks like a pretty nice Hondo to me. Sounds like maybe WA state just misinterpreted HO as Homebuilt in the title switch. To much boat for my wallet and my intestinal fortitude. But good luck with selling it. I'm sure the experts will be along with more usefull comments shortly. :)
