Do you have to do this, or is dropping the engine down enough to get all of the water out of the engine?
I have a ´82 Merc 115, is there anything I should be worried about? The temp got down to about 25 degrees in Havasu last night and at 7am I used my temp-gun on the cowling and it said 14 degrees.
Thanks,
GARY.

yes you should be alright if you trimmed it down all the way and there is no water in it , just because it is so f@#$$%n cold everywhere on the west coast i would throw a blanket over it or even try to wrap a towel around power head and put cowling back on !!! TUNNEL T 22 degrees here at 8 am !!!

I made sure all the water was out of the engine and put some fogging oil into each cylinder.

Mine doesn't sit long enough to worry about it. I do, however, make sure all the water is out of the enigine by trimming it down when it goes into storage.

I did trim it down and I checked for any damage but, nothing visible. So I guess it will be O.K.
Thanks,

What kind of oil is it and how does it work?

Fogging oil is available at most auto parts stores. I took each spark plug out and sprayed some oil into each cylinder.

If your motor is running right when you drain the water and put stabil in your gas, dont worry about it. You can put fogging oil in it if you are really anal but in 30 years of outboards I never have and not one failure dur to it.
I run my little outboards (40hp) in Ill with 10 below for duck hunting and the only thing I ever did was make sure the water was out when on trailer. BTW, they sat outside ALL winter.

Others have told me the same thing. They said that since is a 2 stroke it will leave some oil residue in the cylinders so no need to fog it.

Yep. Also drain and change the lower unit oil and If it was ran in salt water flush the bejeesus out of it. Actually it should be done EVERY time. I never run my boat in it.
