 ok, here is the deal!!!
I can purchase a nordic picklefork jetboat(no motor)tunnel hull for the same price as a v-drive hondo flat bottom 10degree casale drive.(no motor).
I love a picklefork, but for what I have for motor is a 427 chevy about 400 plus horses!! I feel I can run faster with the v-drive but I do own an outboard nordic picklefork tunnel and it runs 91.4 mph on gps.I need more speed!!!
What do you guys/gals think I should purchase? v-drive hondo or the nordic picklefork jet driven?Keep in mind I only have a 400 plus motor!!I would say low 400hp. motor.Let me know, thanks!
David

V-drive, but then again you won't have room for your cooler and it won't have one of those rooster tail lever dealios http://***boat.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

The tunnel will be more practical and no need for the kiney belt.

The decision shuld be based on which forum on ***boat has more fun. I can tell you that the homos om the v-drive forum have more fun....if you want an answer, buy the v-drive and have a smile on your face everytime you fire it up.

if all your looking for is speed with 400hp i would get the v drive. but those nordic pickles are really nice! think of the resale values also. jets are fun. you will have less to maintain with the jet. you can always build your motor up in the future. i would choose the nordic pickle fork myself. tunnels are nice.

I'd get the v-drive. You should be able to pass everything (with similar power) except the gas pumps. Go with the jet and the v-drives will be passing you on the way to the pumps, if you haven't already run out in which case you may be towed in by the v-drive. Bottom line is if you have enough fuel or if you are being towed you will still be seeing the BACK of the v-drives.:D :D

How do Vee drives do ...say in 1-2ft chop......compared to ...say a 21 ft tunnel...?

That's more of a hull comparison than a drive type comparison.

Well, Infomaniac aside...:D
What type hull do vee drives mostly find themselves in? not tunnels?

EXACTLY. A 21' V-Bottom would do VERY well in 1-2' chop.

They do great. Roman1 rents his v-drive flat as a fishing tender to tourists on Lost Lake.
Oh... and I'd forget the new hull and get a bigger outboard so you can go 120+ with the Nordic.
Anyone who wants a v-drive knows exactly what they want and exactly what they're about. A v-drive flat is not a lake cruiser.

I changed my mind, I didn't realize jet was a tunnel(was thinking hydro). Go with the jet, the v drive will sit on the trailer, the jet will get used. It just takes more power.

In all honesty I own a nordic semi v with a 12 degree casale drive running a 454 tunnel ram with 750 carbs!I love this boat. Not fast enough!!82mph on gps.I bought the Nordic picklefork 200 outboard modified hydrolic jack plate speed master lower unit 30 pitch over the hub blade.Runs awsome. Not fast enough! I own a kona 22 ft mini cruiser 460 berkley jet too slow!
I need speed,I am down to my last dollar,I think I am really going to go with the hondo.I love a pickle fork tunnel but I think I am going to buy the v-drive.
Thanks and take care.

Being that he is dealing with only 400 hp, he'll never see the high side of 70mph in the jet. It sounds like he wants the most bang for the buck.
Don't understand the whole trailer thing so I won't comment on that.

The Nordic V-drive is a ski boat. If the Hondo is rigged for drag racing you will notice a difference. Is it a runnerbottom (if so which one?). T-deck, true flat??
Oh, and you can't sign off on a V-drive vs. jet thread like you are done with it. These things can go on forever ......... ;)

Wow....a 454 V-drive with twin 750's on it and turning 82 mph...I'm impressed....HAHAHAHAHAHAAHhahahahahahaha
Now back to reality.....a good hull with a jet will run 82 with a ZZ4....v-drive junk
I do believe his V-Drive is a cruiser? I would like to see that happen.
Also, the dual 750s are probably hurting the 454, if the compression is low.

And a "good" v-drive will run 121 with a single 830 cfm 4 barrel 427. No roller cam and unported heads and intake...;)

So? What will it do with a stock ZZ4?
I don't really know.... but, the top superstock guys see around 650 hp on the dyno. The hull is not assisted by tunnels it is a true flatbottom boat. A much more efficient v-drive hydro should be faster with same power.
