It looks good. But, they missed it with the winshield frame. It needs to be chrome. The black looks too modern and is out of place.

You're right, it's the window that makes it look funny. Like someone posted earlier, if it's a mid 80's vette, I like it.

I WILL be doing that to a vette one of these days. It takes all of the performance of a C5 and slides a bit of my favorite year, the '62 over it.
Just so everyone knows what they are looking at here, you give them a stock C5 convertible (97-2005) and $50K. They will then make you that stunning beauty you see right there in any color you want, using your stock interior and soft top.
I think it is amazing. I love the front end, love the rear end and think the stretch gives it a little bit of a funny car look to it.
I would do it in 19" torque thrusts and drop an LS7 in it.
I saw it at SEMA in person. It is flawless conversion. The company is called Classic Reflections Coachworks for anyone who is interested.
They don't do it with Z06's though because they aren't convertibles.

A dealer in Atlanta had one on their floor last year. It did not look that good in person and they wanted a 100K for it

Re-bodys are fine for clapped out fieros and volkswagons but If you want a 62 corvette, you can go buy one all day long for 30-50 grand and still have enough left over for a C-5 too. If you want a 62 vette with a C-5 drive train, go buy a 62 vette with no drivetrain for cheap and then pay to have a c-5 drive train swapped in. You'll still come out way better than that ugly POS. Wrong windshield, ugly mirrors, ugly door handles, ugly fuel fill havin, wavy bodied, rattly POS. Certain design elements just don't blend well together and they seem to have combined most of them here on this car.:jawdrop: I believe this car is a prime example of what's commonly called "Holy shit that's fukkin ugly!" The modern interior must look really out of place in there, I'm not going to look at their website to find out because I'm afraid! Also I think those chrome wheels look fine on the new vette, but they look like half eaten ass on this thing.

Well, when I get mine I will wave going by, adjusting my modern air conditioner/heater system, enjoying the seven way adjustable seats and admiring the amazing stopping power and acceleration I get out of a unique vehicle that drops jaws everywhere it goes.
The ones I saw (two) were completely flawless. They looked showroom.

Sure as you drive by impressing strangers it's all fine, but if you park it for a minute so thay notice all the flaws, err I mean modern details, they're gonna be all, "Holy crap, what were you thinking?". I do admire your ability to admire something so ugly though.:D

I never understood why some people feel the need for ragging on some other peoples personal tastes in their choices of fun. The above is a custom car intended to please it's owner. If it's owners think it's fun to look at and drive that is all that matters. Personally I would love to have a show quality 58-62 vette. I'd also get a great kick out of the above. They both seem like a blast to me.:D

If I'm insulting Froggys car chioces, It's only because I care.:D If froggy really loves it, by all means he should buy it. But if it's just a passing thing I think he should maybe borrow one and drive it for a while, then after realizing it's not really that cool, drop it like it's hot, thanking god he never had to experience the huge depreciation and divorce sale that is inevitible. I believe he's making poor choices and I was trying to save him some personal and financial heartbreak.:D

I have owned and played with alot of Corvettes over the years....mostly 59-67.....I owned a 75 for a short time also.I was never a true purist ....didnt care a bit if the numbers matched......but I will also say ...I have seen alot of modified mid year vettes that were customized.....I have never seen one that appealed to my tastes like the styling that came from GM ....I had lots of friends who's favorite saying was......"Sure...they made Corvettes after 1967.........but who cares...".....:D

Well, I just talked with CRC about these cars early last year when I sold my Vette. There were ZERO for sale used at the time. After a quick search of the Corvette Trader, there are zero for sale today, so that leads me to believe that the owners like them enough to keep them.
I think they are gorgeous.
The biggest problem with owning classic cars is that they drive like combines. I have driven old cars (exclusively for a while) and did so right up until I could build something newer and nicer. I think that the styling of the old killer cars with modern underpinnings and conveniences is an awesome concept.

YeLLowBoaT

I have never been one of those "numbers matching" has to be stock guys... yes I think some cars should stay "factory", but thats only do to thier value( as in I would sell them, to buy/build what I want.) I would much rather have "cloned" car, with upgrading tech, then a car with 30-40 year old stock parts.

It doesn't cost that though. The conversion is $50K retail... (read between the lines on that one) and you can get a cherry C5 convertible for $25K right now. One with paint/body damage is all that is needed for this, so you can get into a lightly banged up one for $18-20K or so. Total cost? Under $70K with new paint, hardware etc... Add some pimp wheels for another $3K or so and be off to the races.

I concur. I think it looks hot with the ragtop though... I am thinking black on black, with a Katzkins black suede interior and a tan top. Maybe do the dash un black suede too. Big SSBC brakes or Brembo's and 19's... Mmmmm Mmmm.

I wouldn't go that far... they started with something and adapted it.
I would rock that ride though. If it pissed of purists... so much the better. That was one reason I couldn't stomach the Corvette club meetings I attended on occasion... too many nancys.
Maybe do the cove in flat black too... with black centers on the rims, or anodized like my old Vette...
Hmmmm...

Chuck Beck has been around for years. In the 80's and early 90's he was building replica Porsche 550 spyders. They were moulded in Brazil and assembled in Upland Ca. Then they tried their hand at aftermarket body kits for Corvettes and Jaguars. Those went over like a lead balloon. The purists didn't like the mods. They offered a 5 speed getrag transmission upgrade for the XJS's but they were too pricey and didn't sell for $hit. There are still lots of "Beck Spyders" floating around, but not too many jags or corvettes. I think the modifications on the corvette in the earlier post are horrid. They really dropped the ball with the windshield. The 61, and 62 were the years with the stingray rear end and the 4 headlight front end and had a wrap around windshield. Not a steeply slanted one. It totally ruins the lines of the car. yeeeccchhh........

with the bottom half.
It's just two different cars.

If you buy get one I would say you better plan on keeping it. Don't think it would be that easy to resell. Anyone looking for a Corvette is already a Corvette enthusiast and most of them won't want any part of a kit car.

The windshields on these cars were way too vertical. Chevy obvously had no idea what they were doing. Glad the finally corrected the error with the later models. ;)
