I've got a 2006 Chevy Colorado pick-up. I bought it so I could have cheap tranportation for my job. It's worked out pretty good. Except, about 80% of the time I get in or out of the little POS, I get shocked. You know, one of those shocks you get at the casino every time you touch a new slot machine.
It's not bad but, it's bad enough. If I got a shock like that everytime I took a drag off a smoke, I'd quit today.
Is there anyway to stop these static shocks? Or am I gonna have to get rid of the truck? I would prolly lose about $6000 if i trade it in. It's only got 8500 miles on it. But the shocks are bugging the crap outta me.

Ed take that thing to the dealer,They should have a fix.
Either that or throw some gas on it and use the shock like a spark.

I bought an 02 Trailblazer when it first came out. I thought it was cursed because it shocked the hell out of me every time I got in it. We had a Pavlovian fear every time we approched it, timidly sticking the index finger out, slowly approching the thing, then suddenly, POKE!-ZAP!

Blame it on the weather. Cold. Dry. No humidity.
Just the friction of your ass on the seat causes the static shock.
One of those ground straps from the frame to the ground will cure it, if it's that bad of a problem.
Although they're pretty lame looking.

Every car south of the border all the way down to Chile have two of those hanging off the rear bumper. I always wondered what they were for!

I happens to me frequently no matter what car I'm getting out of. I always touch the car door with the back of my hand first. That way even if it shocks me it doesn't hurt. It's when that crap hits your finger that it goes all the way up your arm and such. It can actually be dangerous if you use your left hand as there are nerves that lead directly to your heart. That's why you are supposed to wear ground straps on your right wrist and not your left.

It happens to me too. I figured out how to make it stop though.
Touch the metal frame of the door before you get out and keep contact until your feet are on the ground. It sounds awkward but its not and I don't get shocked anymore.
Or wear a glove.

The dryer the weather , the more static shocks you're getting. The simple remedy is to touch the door handle or the body of your car with the key in your hand . The spark will occur between the car and the key , not your hand ,so you won't feel a thing. Or install a ground strap as BC suggested :D
