At what horsepower is it a good idea to switch to a rail kit. I have a 78 cole t-deck jet with full stringers with a four point motor mount kit in it. I am looking at dropping in a 750 hp blower motor in soon and I'm wondering if my current set up will be safe.

I dont think a rail kit is really any stronger than a traditional 4 point set up. If you think about it, its actually weaker. Most of the ones I have seen only have 4 bolts holding the engine in the boat.
The true benefit of the rail kit is the ease of install and removal.

I had an issue with a 4 point mount last year with my 600hp BBC. It constantly came loose. I did a lightening rail kit and I never had to touch it again!!!! Go rail kit and forget it. Plus they look sweet as a mofo;)

YOu can add strength and bling at the same time!!!!!!

go with the rail kit, they are plenty strong.they distribute the weight over more of the stringer, than just the four point system does, also allows for removing the engine quicker,or adjusting the motor forward or backward without drilling more holes in your stringers.

Where can you pick up a rail kit from and how much do they run?

Go to the bottom of the page.
Rail kits are undoubtably stronger than 4 point mounts. They distribute the weight and torque of the motor over a larger area and they tie everything together for the ultimate in strength. They are the best motor mounts made for boats.

If you have the ability, take a little time to make your own. Much more cost effective and not to difficult.

On top of all of the reasons for a rail kit mentioned above, I think one of the biggest pluses not mentioned is that with a rail kit, you can tie the front jet pump brace into the rail system. This makes the entire drive train basically one solid unit, and helps stop the flex in the bottom of the boat from HI HP applications. In the picture below, you can see how the front pump brace, (blue), hooks right into the rail kit.

Check with tom at Jetboatperformance if you want reasonable. Taylorman you should make note of it. :D. The best way is to fab your own though, looks sweet and you can say you did it yourself.

I bought the front plate from Rocket Racing. Its a front plate for a car. I had him make it my dimensions and make the water pump holes 3/8 NPT. I bought the angle locally, the pillar blocks from htp. I made the driveshaft cover. I really lucked out on the rear plate and flywheel cover. I found it on ebay. I have no idea who makes it nor have i ever seen another one like it. You will have to come up with something for the rear plate cause i cant direct you on that one. There is another guy building a rail kit for his olds. There was a thread on it.

Here's an idea for you. Mine is a plate bolted to the back of the block, and I will put the flywheel on, then bolt the cover I got over it. I will snap a pic of it this afternoon. This might also work for you to set something up similar to Taylorman's setup.

i built my own out of 2X3X1/4 inch angle aluminum. i ran it from the transom up the the brace on my v-drive then took 2X2X1/4 inch angle aluminum and rounded them to fit the raidious of the 2X3. drilled for the motor mounts and tapped the 2X3 and then bolted with 3/8 inch stainless bolts with steel locking nuts to the stringers at 6 points on each side and used 1/4 inch to the rails and the motor mounts all the holes in the 2X3 were drilled and tapped. you can have them powder coated for looks.
