What will your next car purchase be?
Wifes Regal (chix love Regals) just rolled over 100K trouble free miles.
Only hassle with it has been when ya drop the kids off at school, ya have to get out the owners manual, call GM customer service to help work your way through the booby traps to simply get the back door open so the kids can get out.
The president of Buick said on ABC sports: 'Yeah, that was a common complaint".
If we buy another it'll be the new X5 from Ziggy with the big mill in it, and der 4x4.
GM usually bumps up considerably the tow ratings of their trucks the second year of the model run,, so if the new 3500HD can yank 17.000lbs,, we'll be talking to Jay.
So what is your next purchase?:

2500hd. debating on diesel or the 6.0 due to gas prices and if the 6.0 would actually be better do to it. any opinions please chime in. and for the lady she wants a 3 or 5 series bmw!

I'd like to upgrade my 1996 GMC to a new truck.
But as it is now, it pretty much sits in the driveway. Only use it to drag the dogs to the Vets or the boarders, dump runs, hauling big items, and to launch the boat. Maybe used 3 or 4 times a month.
It runs well. Paid off. Low insurance. Low registration.
Even though I could easily afford it, I can't justify shelling out 25-30 Gs for a new pick-up.

Diesel is fifty cents more per gallon....does get better mileage and tows better, but filling it up sure sucks. If you don't tow that often, its probably not worth it.

thats what i was thinking. i tow to the river prob 2-3 times a month during summer and then a 26ft toyhauler to the desert about the same amount of time in the winter.... so im startin to lean more towards the 6.0

Going twice as far on a tank for a measly 50c a gallon still appears more economical!

Same thoughts here,, but we may need more towing cap.
Selling it would be like shooting a prize dog for no reason.

I'm liking the H2 more and more. Not for a towing vehicle but for a grocery getter for the wife. There's got to be some good values on a two or three year old one out there. Maybe the Infinity FX or X5. The wife also likes the CLK, that's about her all time fav car, not alot room for two adults and two teenagers though.

Yup, those are nice also. One of them and a Magnacharger would be fun.
I thought about the magnacharger route on my CTS-V but too many rear end failures even when stock to chance the dealer voiding the warrenty on it.

It'll be a year or two, but either a:
1969 or 1970 Chevrolet Corvette, either LT-1 350/4-speed or big block 4 speed, red or blue, black leather interior upgrade, coupe, fairly stock driver, no Barrett-jackson show queen, but a very nice driver.
-or-
1933/34 Ford, 3-window Coupe, Steel Body, 3-inch chop, full fendered, dropped i-beam front end on hairpin wishbones, quickchange rearend on wishbones and coilovers, big and littles on Halibrands, prefer FoMoCo 351w power w/4 speed trans, but would consider other powerplants as long as the tranny has a clutch. Either flat black primer or black exterior, black interior.
But those are just some thoughts off the top of my head. I really haven't given it much consideration. :D

Maybe if you're comparing a Diesel Jetta to a F150 V6.
And let that diesel need a repair out of warrantee...$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ lol
And it's the premium that you pay for the diesel engine that kills the equation. I figure, based on rough estimates for mileage between the diesel (17 city/23 highway) and the 6.0 liter, which I currently own (12 city/16 highway), you can save roughly 12-13 gallons of fuel per full tank (assuming ~30 gallon tank for easy math). Sounds like a lot, and it is from an economy point of view. However, when you factor in the added cost of diesel (for 30 gallons), this equates to around a $17 difference per tank in favor of the diesel, which still sounds good. However, even if you drive 18,000 miles year, you're looking at a grand total of about 35 tanks per year or a savings of about $600 per year.
Meaning, when you factor in the, I believe, $6,000 upcharge for the diesel option, you have an approximate 10-year ROI. However, if you are interested in the diesel because it will provide a significant performance improvement (especially towing) over the 6.0 liter or because you can slow the rate of fuel consumption in America (if not particulate output), then the diesel is a hands-down winner.
By the way, currently planning on ordering the BMW 650ci (convertible) for "European delivery" this summer. I travel regularly to the UK and Europe for business (in London now in fact) and the $6,000 you can save with this program makes it a great deal (added to the fact you can "break in" your new car on a German autobahn :D)
