I'm looking into buying a 1992 Mercury Black Max 150HP. Any problem areas I need to check for? Any suggestions/advice/etc? Also, I need some info on the motor.... specs, size, etc. Thanks

BlackMax good.

Like Tom says, they're good. How good depends on what they are asking for it. 200 percent better than a chizzler.

BlackMax good.
Haha..thanks for the info Tom! And it might not be a Black Max I found out... I know that it's an early/mid 90's Merc 200 Horse. Asking price will be about $1500, hopefully less. I think it's got EFI, I'm told it's a 2-stroke.

Black Max is an older name for the v-6's. Don't worry if it doesn't say it on the cowling. If it will fire up and run and if it passes a compression test grab dat biotch. Cyls should be within 15 percent of each other. Stock comp is around 120-130. That should be a good motor.

Looks like I'll be the proud new owner of a 200 HP Merc if everything goes to plan... AAAAAAAAH it's killing me. Details (and possibly pics) to come soon.

Found out it's a 1995 200 HP. It's been in salt water, but for the price ($1000), I can't resist.

Looks like a 25" motor to me. What are you going to put it on?

Can you say, "still too low?"
Here's a side shot of my 90 Merc with 20" mid section on my 16' Glastron. Note the jack plate is right at the top. This was before I got some new engine side pieces for the RapidJack to go another two inches higher.
With a 25" mid, I'd probably lose 10+ mph, although I'm pretty sure it would generally work.
I would way rather go the other way, with a 15" mid, but I'm too poor to fly in that crowd.

NO NO ,You don't want the one with the prop on it. It is a lefty (counter rotating) and while you could do it that wayit's a pain and expensive to convert. The one on the right should be a right hander if it runs and is for sale buy it.

Hey Drunk,
the lefty will be changed out to be a righty free of charge. The motor on the right blew up. And Tom, I'm not going for all out crazy speed here, I just want more power than the 135.

you should really consider the 20'' shaft, i did the same thing that you are doing and tore the transom off the back of the boat in some shallow water
plus the 10 to 15 mph that you will gain....

Useless, if I end up getting the 200, then I'll be selling the Chrysler. Interested? Make an offer. It'll be available at the beginning of April.
And boats&bars, I do plan on putting a 20" or shorter shaft on it eventually. Gotta save up the $$$. Hey useless, let's trade.

If the guy is going to change it to a righty instead of a lefty he will have to change the lower unit. Have him put a 20" on it. I bet he has a can laying around for it also.

Pretty sure it's coming off of the other motor. But, he's always getting stuff in and out of his work, so we'll see.

Is what still for sale for how much? The Yamaha is still for sale (I think). I haven't heard from the guy in a few days, normally it'd take him an hour or two to reply....

God... people are RETARDED! Apparently when I asked the seller if the motor ran, I needed to specify for HOW LONG it ran. He only had it running for two seconds before it sputtered out and died, and he hadnt' touched it since. He said the rest of the motor was in good condition. Riiiight, except for the cracked skeg, lack of compression (could turn it over by hand), and chewed up prop. He said the hull was fine except for a soft spot in the floor. I'm suprised the transom was still holding the motor up.

I'm so glad no money was exchanged before I looked at that thing. The more I think about it, the more pissed I get that the guy was such a douche.
