View Full Version : Thought the rebuild would go better than this

Upon getting the 454 tore down,we found that once we pulled the cam out that one of the lifters had blew a hole through the block into the water jacket.The initial problem was the valve was imbedded into the piston.Now that my current block can be used for an ancor,I get to start fresh with a new block.:mad:

you can "hot sleve" a lifter bore and save a block, as long as the lifter bore is not cracked

I would seriously look into this before you start dropping cash to rebuild.

I feel your pain. I'm building a 454 now for my boat.
When I bought it after throwing a rod in my other motor on the last ride of the season I thought it was going to need a simple refresh but I was wrong so I know where you are coming from.

There's a typo in the first post. He meant "455" as in Oldsmobile. Oldsmobiles are the only motor known to fail. A "454" as in Chevy is bullet proof.
