Does anybody have any knowledge or data on how weight reflects e.t & mph on your average river racer? Lets say a passenger of 150lbs vs no passenger I know theres some varibals on this question, however im trying to get a baseline. thanks,

I've always heard .10 for every 100 pounds, but don't know that.

me alone (220lbs), 2 full tanks of gas - 71.8
me, 2 full tanks, 135lb passenger - 68.3
me, 2 semi full tanks, 275lb passenger - 66.9

Steve,
The ET should increase with more weight not the opposite. :)

I compensated with diverter angle and a manually adjustable loader. :p

In my Rogers v-bottom, I weighed the coctail seats (65 pounds each) and trading them out at the track for a single fiberglass bucket seat was worth 2 tenths of a second off the ET. Removing the false floor (which was a waterlogged and heavy 3/4-inch thick plywood board) was good for another tenth and a half.
Weight is crucial. Put your boat on a diet and see what happens. I dont remember what the mph increases were though.

Did you take in account the added resistance on the bow eye bearings?

Ive heard 60 lbs. is worth a .10 on a good boat.
In my opinion, if you shave enough weight you may be dealing with a tottally different boat.

which leads back to another thread. Will removing weight change the center of gravity? and how much?
William,
I drilled 2- 3/4" holes on either side of the bow eye to let air pass through instead of around the hull. It, in essence, makes the hull like a flute. Different wind conditions give a different tune as the air passes through the holes.

60 lbs sounds reasonable for .10 what about losing the place diverter? Any significant advantages or disavantages? Seems like it would create drag and more weight in a race only environment.

Your not using the diverter at the races?

Yes but my hands were full at the starting rope in effort to or cut a lucky r.t. No neutral last time out.had the diverter sorta locked at 4 degrees, need to drill holes in my reverse bucket.

Still what performance gains with a place diverter at W.O.T This is a learning curve so please be patient.

Talk to the guys that race gullwings and take notes, there is a reason most of them have diverters.

Brian, just curious.. Are you running a manual or hyd. Place diverter?

Im running a manual. If I cant get this set up to e.t & mph in the next couple of months The blown combo will be history.

If your on the river and losing the race---kick out the passenger[s], you won't believe how much difference it makes! Plus there's more beer for the driver! Budlight

Ya I agree. Get that new engine Ive heard about in there, that should do it. :)
You should get the conversion kit that takes your manual diverter to a hydraulic unit...Simply using the diverter to get the boat to take a better set could be worth some et. Trying to do this with a manual unit on a race boat isnt the best way to do it.

The new engine will be ready in a hot minute if this season fails me.Seriously I wish I had a new mill, unfortunately I may be in limbo when that happens.
