I had a buddy go down to Shockwave and look at a used Advantage.
Boat looks pretty clean and only has about 150 hours on the clock.
How does this boat perform with a 6.2 (320hp) and a bravo 1.
Anything extra good or bad about this hull?
What kind of speed loaded with the 6.2?

Thank you!!! (I tried to talk him into a 25' Tremor but his wife is holding him pretty tight budget wise:D:devil: )
Who at shockwave could give him the best HB deal now that Barry is gone?;):)

I bet it will be a sled with the 6.2. I'd try to find something with more power. Just my 2 pesos. :D

Probably be lucky to see 60mph with that setup. I've seen that boat and it appears clean.

What kind of HP is your Taco Wagon running?:)
I know the Howard is more efficent but you think a 320hp 22 ft boat will be a turd?
This is the guys first boat and he dosen't seem to have a huge desire to go fast.(I tried to get him into something used with the 502/496)

I have an 18 year old 454 mag in mine. 365hp I think(when it was new) and my boat will hit 70. That 22 is a lot bigger than mine and pushes a lot of water.

I've got a couple of buddies with 22 Citations, the hulls are built really solid and seem to handle a good deal of abuse, but they take a lot of power/proper set up to get them up on top of the water. they track pretty flat almost like a cat, rather than lean like most Vs do in a turn. My one buddy has owned his for approx 15 years, all in all it has been a pretty good boat.
Well that's my 2 cents

I got a buddy who owns one with a 496HO. The boat is a taller bulky boat unlike most 22 footers which is good for the churned up water at Havasu or the River. I don't remember exactly a top speed but I want to say somewhere around 65mph. Not the fastest boat but good for rough water and lots of space as a family boat. The 6.2L would be a little small. Like it was said earlier, try to find one with more power.

I have an 06 Lightning 23xs with 6.2 MPI Horizon I run 61.8 on gps with my wife, almost a full tank of fuel and a cooler or two. That is pretty much the fastest I have heard with the 6.2 (I'm sure there is faster though) . I'm not sure if the engine is exactly the same in 03.
Good luck.
BTW, Its for sale. Just hit 20hrs. Very nice.

When I looked at them I sort of remembering the degree at dead rise being something goofy like 16 degrees. Crap that is a flat bottom!
I had the advantage 21 SBR Open bow for less than one summer. It took all of the 454 MPI to get it on plane at 4 grand. Nice boat but heavy, slow and older design IMO
Guess if he is in that range he should look at buying a Lavey 21 which is 22.8. With the 6.2 it will pull 65 and be decent on fuel. Remember it's a small block so you save a chunk of weight. One has been in the trader for about 5 months at $43K. I am sure it time for the price to come down.

So basicly it sounds like a nice riding heavy boat that needs a decent amount of motor to work great because of the old school hull design.:)

They have a 236 down at eliminator in that range, much better bottom. I never owned the 22 citation but it is said that it drives ilke the trailer is still attached.:D
Eliminator also has a 25XP 1996 i think with hydrualic steering, tabs with the 385HP I think. The hardware needs to be changed some but it was 35k. Walk tru open bow.

I have a 89' 22' Citation and love it...there are a few people here on the boards that have seen it. Run a Blown 502 ci and it runs. They are great rough water boats. Had it in some 7-8' swells that sunk plenty other boats. For the size it is real deap. I have a closed bow and me, my wife, and our great dane are not afraid to spend a week at a time in it on the water, sleeping and all. Absolutly love my boat.

I have a 96 22' Citation with 7.4 best we have ever gotten was about 60. Boat does handle rough water well and there's lots of cabin and cockpit room for that size boat. At 60 it just doesn't seem like its even moving anywhere close to its potiental. Definately be a tug with 6.2 but still fun for family boat. For 35k I would think he could do a little better and get some speed too.

The Boat Is Awesome In Rough Water, Just As The Last Post States Lots Of Room And Storage. I Had A 496 Mag And Could Never Get The Sled Past 55 Although I Read Numerous Posts With People Pushing Mid 60's. I Dont Buy It. With A 496ho I Believe People When They Say They Hit 60. After The Raylar Package I Hit 72. Boat Handles Well At This Speed But I Had Dual Hydraulic Steering Installed. You Cant Go Wrong With The Hull But The Slow Speed Will Kill You With That Engine.

Brian,
What was the cost pf this boat new? It's a base model. No real upgrades Shouldn't have cost more than 42K new, if that. It seems a bit pricey to me Just my .02

I've got a 2001 Citation BR with the 496HO package spinning a 24 Bravo. At 22', it's probably the deepest and best riding boat in its class. I've had no problems dealing with the rough water in Havasu. The hull is solid, but heavy. I've hit 72 with a light load and it'll run 65 all day with a load. It does take some power to get the boat to plane though. All in all it's been a great boat.
Advantage was getting something in the $60K + range for the same boat last year.

It's not about fast, it's about getting moving. The 320hp is fine on the top end, but the less-than-400 ft lbs of tq will be hard pressed to push that boat out of the water. Several boats can get away with it, but that 22' Citation is know for it's heavy hull and lots of wetted area - which is where the good ride comes from.
Now, I understand the 6.2 Whipple kit is a real winner, and would wake this boat right up.

Now, I probably wouldn't push this hard of tune, but knock a few psi off of this and it would be a stout package.

The 22' Citation is good to about 80 mph. Than it will start to chime walk a little without trim tabs. SevenD on here has a 22' Citation that hits mid+ 80's.
