Well, I got back a letter from one of the soldiers yesterday thanking us for sending it out. He really appreciated the goodies along with the socks. Made my day yesterday but.....
7 of the boxes came back to us. I hope they just got relocated before the boxes got there as opposed to a KIA situation.
If you do something like this make sure you secure the boxes reall good. They look like they took a major beating and were pretty worn out.

Thanks Deb. I will let you know. I sent them some of those Costco bags of jerky. Not nearly as good as the turkey jerky of course

When we first sent troops, Sheltons sent them some Jerky and they loved it. I've sent it to my cousin's son who was over there. It's a great source of protein and keeps well in that environment.

G/F sends about 1 a week, full hot HB and PB mags, Autoweeks, candie, etc, and has had a few letters back. Always appreciated. Post office supplies a box that you can stuff for only $8.00 postage.

Contact Operation Military Pride.
All the ones I sent have not been returned, e-mail address is the easiest response from the recipient.
Never did hear from the little kid we sent all the xmas gifts to though. :D

20....We got current info from a group that sends packages over into Iraq. Put in apx $50. worth of stuff in each box...socks, paper, jerky, nuts, pencils, stamps, deoderant, crackers, etc
I wanted to include cig's but the State Dept said no tobacco. I have a problem with that. No cig's but they can get shot at. If they want a cig while taking a break they should be able to have one. This really pissed me off

Tom, Im sure your effort is very much appreciated and if they dont check those packages I'd say F the State Dept. I agree, if they can get shot at and risk their lives over there then they deserve a damn cigarette if they want one.

The cigarette thing bugs me. it has since I first read it, and I was gonna keep my mouth shut, but, well, I been a-drinkin' a bit tonight.
I suspect it has something to do with respecting the culture of the Iraqi People. Fine. I can certainly understand the desire of the State Dept. to do that. It is my understanding that American Servicewomen must meet specific clothing requirements when in public as well.
HOWEVER;
Our military is made up of people, volunteers, not conscripts. They signed up because of a desire to serve. The pay, as we all know, ain't nothing to write home about.
So, perhaps there needs to be an effort made by the Iraqi Gov't. to educate the decent, law abiding God-Fearing citizenry about some of the customs of the people who have come from halfway around the world to save their ever-lovin arses from the FFIC (**cker Formerly In Charge) who, along with his sons, robbed, raped, and murdered a large chunk o'the peeps.
And who, if memory serves, they just hung, by the neck, until he was dead, in a real expression of freedom.
If I was a bazzillionaire, I'd charter a big ole' jet, fill the damn thing with Cigarettes, silly string, Coors Light, and freeze-dried Big Macs and deliver the stuff personally to those men and women.
Maybe some of it would fall into the hands of the Iraqis, that would be a hell of a culture shock, eh?

AS one who's been over there, I want to tell you how much the packages really do mean. Those boxes are like a mini-christmas and a little bit of home wrapped together. Part of the fun is bartering to trade thing you might not need (I don't smoke) for things you want (like jerky). There are some serious trades going on.....:D
Anyway, thanks for the support. It really is appreciated.

So what is the BEST stuff to send?
I get a list from OMP and send what they recommend but they have to be by the book.
I did send a couple of packages to a SEAL friend of mine that were a bit out the norm. He really liked the tranny, fat, huge tit over fifty porn with his name plastered throughout the best but I don't think I should send that chit to a stranger.:D
Anyone that reads this that hasn't sent anything yet, go to the post office get their free packaging kits, and e-mail Operation Military Pride for an APO.
Or get a few big azz fawking boxes, go to Costco and spend what you would on one weekend to the river and send a HUGE thank you to the men and women that make your vacation possible.
Without them we would have nothing.:D
