Yep, the barrels of any rifle will get that hot when fired that fast that long. It's the #1 best way to ruin a barrell in a hurry, both from heat warping AND from burning the rifling right out of the barrell ahead of the chamber (throat erosion).
That barrell was likely heat warped now once it cooled.
