Can a rectangular port intake be used on oval port head? May sound like a stupid question but I just don't know.

Yes.
There was an article about this in Hot Boat (I think) back in the '80s by a Super Stock racer, (was it Max Harding???). He won a high points championship with a Riviera (Barron splash) called "Junkyard Dog". Maybe I can dig out the article.

I did it a long time ago, it works but personally I don't think it's worth the effort, I spent a lot of hours on the grinder blending and the results to me weren't justified. With the manifolds they have today, I would just get a good oval port intake and be done with it!...Just my .02!...

I run this settup but not because I want to.
Flat Racer I have that magazine also. The Magazine was called Performance Boating and was a spin off from Hotrod.

BTW, there's no blending needed. Just bolt 'em on and go. The air packs into the sharp corners and flows smoothly into the ports. Actually the higher velocity helps midrange torque.
