10K is going to be tough to find a clean cruiser V-drive. If you want something decent I would say plan on spending around $15. An old Howard, Campbell, Spectra, or Hallett can be had in that neighborhood but it is still most likely going to need some work. Not to burst your bubble but $10K is really nice cruiser with a jet money. If you want a V-drive its gonna take more $$$.

You get something you'll end up putting another $25,000 or more into. I'd imagine there's alot of us that have been down that road.

we paid around 12K for ours, and ended up putting a little bit into the trailer. other than changing things to the way we want, we just put gas into it. Keep lookin', you might get lucky.

I own one of these and highly reccommend you check it out! One of the few cruisers with a split dash to allow entry to the forward area and an awfully nice riding boat in 2 foot chop! I am told these used to be run ocasionally in off shore racing in their day. Anybody else know more?

The problem with the 21' Schiada is that it won't hold 6-8, not unless you want to take a chainsaw and open up the deck - but I don't recommend that. Cutting open the deck on a 21' Schiada is like putting one of those roll bars on a Schiada, it doesn't go in my opinion. I concure that $27K is a smokin deal for a 21', especially if the hull is in good shape. Schiada's hold their value and are predictable in their handling. The only other 21' I would consider would be a Rayson Craft (they're pretty sweet as well). But then again, Schiada's and Rayson Crafts owned the 'old school' ski racing circuit, which I'm a big fan of. Seeing the pictures, reminds my of Dunsmore's red 21' Schiada - NWSRA#157, Suddenly. Complete with the windshield - great for smacking a speed ski on and cracking.

I know a guy who isn't selling a v-drive cruiser...but $10K will take it. :D It is a 21 Howard, with a BBC. Runs strong, needs TLC on interior. He doesn't want to squabble. If you want it, he'll take $10K. I have seen it and it is defintely worth more than $10K. PM me for more details.

Just in time for this post. I came across a mint 21' Eliminator river cruiser. I picked it up and have since decided to go another route. This thing was stored in a garage in Havasu for 18 years by the orig owner before I bought it. The hull is pristine. Has very nice rigging with an Art Carr Th400 and a Casale. The seats are in OK shape, but I think I would change them just to update the color. All the hardware is out getting coated and I just wet sanded and buffed the hull. It came out like a 2008............... Sits on a Comp tandem axle in good shape. I was looking for 9k with everything but a motor. Includes all mounts, steel braided lines, trans cooler, Dooley 10 qt v-drive pan, polished logs, cam driven water pump etc. I'll get a pic up as soon as I can......... Give me a call if you're still looking 951-675-9249

Here's a few pics. The camera was not the best. The pics really don't do this thing justice. The hull is so glossy it looks wet. Don't have any pics of the inside rigging, but I'll get it as soon as everything comes back from Pro Coat. Stringers are about as clean as I have ever seen, no extra holes. Very nice cruiser, I just think I'm gonna go a different direction. I got it about a month ago and the motor started to pop. Later found out the cam went flat and it didn't leak down to well. It ran smoth and shifted really nice until the motor started popping. I thought I would totally restore it and go with a blown or turbo deal, just never panned out. I am amazed at how clean the original 30 year old gel is. Near perfect (including the bottom). If somebody has a nice BB Chevy around, this would be a perfect hull for it.

I am looking for a V-drive cruiser and wanted to see if anyone knows about a 1977 21 Dimarco. Is it a good boat and what bottom did they splash?

steveo143
03-08-2007, 05:57 PM
The 21' DiMarco is a spectra bottom with a new deck that was wider inside and the dash was moved 18" forward. I am restoring mine now that I bought new in 1977. It is a great boat capable of high horsepower.

I have quite a few. I haven't figured out how to post them here but when I do I will start a thread on the complete redo of this project. The only concern of a 1977 boat would be the condition of the gelcoat. That was the time of the first oil crisis and the quality of some of the resins was suspect. The entire deck of my boat spider cracked so my project includes a total regell to the waterline. I have capped the deck, filled all guage holes and numerous other thru holes. I have added 4' to the center lifting strakes per George Shilalo aka Mardi Gras on this site and gfinishline on AZDon'site. This boat had a twin turboed 468 @850 hp originaly in 1977. The new version will have a 600' twin turboed EFI motor @1200hp. I will be using outboard steering fully hydraulic, split hydraulic acuated cav. plates with presets for full power runs. This boat willn kick ass and win the Parker 300 and send the Whackers home .

This year? I've heard of more than one hitter that wants to come out with a V'drive and put the hurt on the whacker boys. I'm all for it. Nothing like watching a boat with a 45 minute handicap run like a raped ape to make up the lost time and catch up on the lap count.

That looks like the Spectra deck, but the bottom looks different?

I just saw it in the trader, and I remembered this thread. Seems like a good deal for a starter project. The older Howards where Spectras, right? Then they changed the deck later on. Either way, it's prolly a pretty hefty hull. Make that falker pop wheelies & shiat.

Yeah they were, but that bottom on that boat isn't a Spectra bottom? That's something else.. So it must've been another boat in the Howard line up other then a "custom cruiser" or something?
