So there was a thread a while back about the difference a loader will make on boats under and over 80MPH.
I ran with and without a loader and compared. with a super loader with no modifications boat ran 72 at 5000. Still really wet(another issue)
I pulled the loader and installed the rock grate. Boat ran 77 at almost the same RPM and the shut down was down right scary (wierd, maybe too much shoe?). Boat is still wet.
No other modifications were made. I expected an increase in MPH but also expected a substansial increase in RPM as I figured the loader was overcharging the pump. The top pump pressure at WOT was about 25psi with the rock grate. Didn't get a chance to check the bottom pressure.
Any thoughts, I know the tach is correct and does read over 5000 because before I did the pump it was pulling 5500 at 76mph.
Basically I am running 77 at the same RPM I was running 72 with the loader and 70 before the pump mods. Not too shabby. Once I get the RPM where it needs to be, it'll run even better.
Pump does have a SS "A", inducer, plate, shoe, droop and diverter etc..
BUT... HOW THE DAY ENDED SHORT -
So while running down the lake I backed off the hammer and immediately had 10" of water at my feet (not good). My first thought was the I had a major hole somewhere. Upon inspection the gasket between the bowl and the pump kicked out and pouring water into the boat while under way and leaking a little when off.
After a nice, slow, quiet ride back to the ramp, I headed home to lick my wounds and plan the repair of the gasket. I've never had a bowl gasket blow out before, anyone else?
Thoughts are appreciated...
I forgot mention the boat is a 78 hallet. 1000lb hull, really nose heavy. 496 roller motor. We moved the motor and pump back 2" to help offset the heavy nose weight.

I too have had the gasket pushed out. Just checked with a staight edge. NOT STRAIGHT. Pulled the insert and putting her on the mill.

Couple of cold ones and my sandwich I packed for lunch made it a tolerable ride. Aside from the wake boats who can't seem to stay a safe distance with the boat, or the rider, it was not bad.
I'll pull the bowl tomorrow and see if maybe I picked up something that may have caused the bowl seal to fail. There was a lot of stuff floating in the lake.

There has to be a problem somewhere else. My boat ran 59.6 before i installed a loader. When i installed it ran 65.4 with a junk pump. Ran right at 74 with the pump rebuild and flow work.

Gugs, more than likely your shoe is going to need some taken off. BUT YOU STILL NEED TO SET UP THE GAUGES TO BE ABLE TO READ THEM. Just my .02.
