The Donzi 22-Shelby is not "Limited Production" and you can get one for cheaper then that.

I think it's a cool little boat and I think one with a 525 would be alot of fun!!

They're claiming a true 80mph with a Mag Ho... I'd call that a lot of boat!

Maybe alot of SPEED, but for that money, I would surely hope most people would be looking at a 26' Cobra, a 26' Sleek, or several other BIGGER boats that would take up a little more real estate.
To each their own. That just strikes me as a 26' price for a 22' boat. But, I am no speed demon, either. I like to have 6 or so other people with me, a few coolers, and crush rough water.

Well, yeah, basically.
When my friends (that you met) were talking to you before and looking to buy a new 26' like yours, they were around $87K. In regards to the 22' Donzi, I would much rather have a 26' boat than a 22' boat - for that money.

The 700SCI motor and drive is awesome no doubt, BUT for the kind of money you pay for that, well I think they could do a little better dress up on the visible hoses at least when the motor is in the boat. They have nice billet pulleys and all but black hoses sort of bring it down IMHO NSF{{{{{:D I wouldnt turn it down though

I don't think I could ever bring myself to spend that much money for THAT motor. I would do a TPI motor for probably less money and more HP. I just drooled over that motor because it wears RED very well. :)

Beer: I just read about a boat that had the 700's in it (maybe ***boat?) and the upgrade for the pair was, GASP, $161,000. Of course that included the NXT drives but holy crap thats expensive in my book!!!!!!!!!!! NSF

Oh yeah. It's been discussed here a few times. That money would buy some real nice professional motors and matching drives - with a little money to spare.
There's no doubt that there is something to be said for turn-key 700HP, drop-in performance, though.

Thats for sure Beer, my cuz builds his 540 n/a for longivity and they live. Idle thru the channel, no SOOT, start with 1 click and produce 720-740 dynoed HP. Low compression, small cam and runs on pump gas with a single 1050 carb AND A WHOLE LOT CHEAPER AND WAY BETTER LOOKING, I''ll send you some pic's of a pair or did i do that already?? NSF

... and crush rough water.
Trust me, that little Donzi will run better in rough water then a 26' Cobra or Sleek. The Donzi is a heavy boat, 3,500lbs, with a 7' beam and 24 deg. deadrise and no pad. It's built to run fast in rough water, soft on re-entry, no slapping and solid as a rock. Yes it'll only seat five and has minimal storage but most people buy them for the style and capabilities not the creature comforts. Again that boat can be bought for less, $85K is full retail, they can be had for upper $60K's. 80-MPH is correct, I rode in one this summer at the factory that was bumping 80. The X-dim on the Shelby is raised 2" over a standard 22-C giving it some good top end.
This is a real $80K Donzi (http://www.offshoreonlyclassifieds.com/page-14647.html)

No, you sent the 500EFI pics, but no carbed motor pics.

I have no doubts that it runs real good. It obviously runs a sharp V and deep entry. Alot of 21s and 22s run in big water, Schiada, Hallett, Howard, Donzi.
The fact remains; there is no replacement for displacement.
The real idea I was getting at with the "little boat for a lot of money" is the storage and seating. 4-5 people max (and crowded) and one or two tiny ice chests is completely unfriendly more MY type of boating. As I said, to each their own, as that is many other's type of boating. I, myself, would be putting $80K elsewhere. And, OK, even $60Ks, I would be looking for 8-10 people capacity. That was my meaning.
