Hey guys I am looking for BBF headers for my 20' Spectra. I'm not sure though if I get some If they would clear the hull out the back of the boat? I don't wanna go through transom cause I still want the meaty look. And is there any other brands of boat headers other than Basset, Rewarder, and Lemon? Thanks

i think bassett has a upswept style(not zoomies) and they look bad ass.......mine are real close but and they are fine(in my avatar)....maybe find someone that has some and try one on!!:)

Yeah, Spectras down like OT headers. The engines sit too low. I made an extended set once for mine, but they cracked after a season of running, so back to logs I went. :)

If you went for the bassett or rewarder you could try to run a v drive header. That would give you a bit more clearance because the jets engine is angled down in the rear and a v drive is angled down in the front. dont really know, just throwin it out there.

Those look way meaty! I would love a set but I wonder how much like those would cost? $1200 for a set of headers is just too ridiculous. Unless any other 20' spectra owners have tried it...hmmm

those are way to short for your boat. I have a set of those for my other boat.

How bout that #109 boat? It has a big ass ford in it.
The upswept ones are to short, both in length and hight.
Im guessing your carb barly stick over the gunnel, those wont reach over it for sure.

Yea I think you're right. My air cleaner sits almost flush with the top of the hull(probably 2 inches under it). Those would be too low still. Hmmm this sucks, I just want some headers that aren't through transom! and I don't want to cut my boat

I am sure Bassett or rewarder will make you a set of headers for your boat at whatever angle or height you need just be ready to pay for it:devil:
I had a 18' Wriedt maverick with a 460 and had a set of rewarder twist's on it that just cleared the transum so we added some heat shields on the back to help, it worked for me and I seem to remember calling rewarder and them saying take measurements and we can readjust the angle accordingly:idea:

Yeah, well try having to spring for 2 sets.:jawdrop: Actually a friend of mine is a distributor for Lightning and I got both sets with the custom lime green powder coating to match my graphics on my Dominator for about $3700.00 which I didn't think was too bad.
The Sanger that I just restored for my father did have log manifolds and I found a set of Hooker headers which are set up basicly the same as Bassett,Rewarder ect. The headers did make a HUGE difference in the performance of the boat though.

Oh my, who hacked up your hull? How's the rest of it look?

Actually whoever did the open bow job on her did a pretty good job. all the edges are rounded and the floors cut nice for coolers and such. she's just in need of some paint bad.
Yeah the carb was stickin out of that red boat, no way will they clear mine if my air cleaner sits below. I am just gonna have to do a little hack work. Anyone else own a spectra with non-thru transom headers?

Here's how I had to do the headers on mine. Kinda ugly, but it was nice and loud. :D

Lol oh my god those are great! You talk about hacking up my hull look at your headers! no I'm just joking. That's probably what I'm gonna have to do to avoid cutting my haull. But that's what a grinders for right? I'll just spend a little more time detailing them. Perfromance first, looks second in my book. We'll see how she works

Well, they weren't the prettiest headers around anyway. I paid $200 for them on Ebay and by God they were going on there one way or the other! :D
It has some nice looking logs back on it now, but those headers were fun for a year. I gained almost 300 RPM with them.

Yeah I'm selling my water logs next weekend at the Big 5 at qualacomm in San Diego. Looks like you used a mig, think TIG would look better? I need headers just cause of the blower I'm gonna run.

malcolm

I'm sure a tig would look a little better, but the main problem with mine was rust. Those old headers had a lot of rust down there to deal with.
There is also a chance that if you found the right headers that you could bend them upward enough to miss the deck. With the inline primaries on mine it wasn't an option.

What try and heat the headers up and stick a pipe in the collevtor and bend them up?
