"Old School" Datsun 510

72 Datsun 510 2dr bubble flares, L18, dual mikuni's,coilover front with Tokico's all the way around,new paint,konig rewind whieels,new tires,all new window and body rubber.
Interior is pretty decent but needs a headliner, that I have new in a box.
Andybody looking for an old school little hot rod that'll out handle just about every porsche out there. $5,500 OBO. I can e mail pics but I'm ***boat illiterate as far as posting pictures.

My cousin used to build those. He had a nissan 6cyl witha huge turbo out of a diesel in it. He would handle anything that rolled up to him! The only issue was that he couldnt keep clutches in it:eek: he had to install a roll cage in it to keep the body from flexing:eek:

These things are the S@%$%t, I had built 13 of them back in my time. I used to work for Sunrise Z in Glendale, Ca. Had a '72 put a tilton eng. turbo motor, kept blowing head gaskets so we O-ringed the block and head and then kept blowing the rings then finally we designed a wastegate that worked, Also had a 72 that made it into Super Chevy Sunday (tells you how long ago) I had a Chevy 350LT-1 with a turbo 400 auto and a 200zx rear dif...that thing was the best sleeper until I started it or you looked at my license plate (DatChev)....Also made it in Car Craft Magazine with an articale from Hot Rod sitting on the hood stating you couldn't put a 350 V-8 in a 510...showed them...had a bunch with metal flairs and a few with fiberglass ones, also had stock bodies but lowered and 2.0 and 2.2's some 1.6 motors but the 1.8's were better to build. Anyway you just brought back so many memories...miss those cars...and yes we used to race Mulhulland drive and blow the doors off of most porches and bikes too......Good luck with the sale, wish I had the room would make this my 14th..

Agreed. Let's get some of these pics up. We used to race a freind's 510 around all the time. Fun cars to drive. Not sure about the Porsche killer comment...I think I'd still rather drive the Porsche. :D

I would also rather drive a Porsche, at that time I had two of them. I was just commenting about 510's and their ability to blow away the respected Porche's up at Mulhulland drive back in the day. (Any of you that ever raced there should remember this guys name) Except for Chris and his Porche, nobody on that mountain ever came close to him not even on his bad days....lol..
I will see if I can download some pics of my old 510's, you guys will really like the V-8 pics..(side note: I had a 72-911S stock also had a '82 911 sc with a 3.5 twin turbo custom built by former PRT (porche racing team wrench) up in Sunland back around the mid 80's.

I never made it out that way. I made it to Whittier a bit though. We drag raced (watched) at Four Lanes or Ontario mostly. There was a good cruise night in Brea at one time too with a lot of Datsun people.
I had a 71 with a gutted interior with aluminum panels, L20b with SSS head, a header, Webbers, Z-car 5 speed, Tilton light flywheel, Corbeau buckets, roll bar and 15" black mesh wheels with Quickor swaybars and custom brakes. It was painted the brightest orange I could find. I had a license plate that said... AJNTRNJ for Agent Orange.
I had a ton of parts that never got installed like box flares and other hi-end NISMO stuff.
I will have to scan the pics to post them
I did a bit of AutoX and used mine as a daily driver. I ended up with a couple more for projects but had to let them go unfinished. I still have a lot of old NISMO catalogs and the Datsun How to books if anyone is interested.

I had it painted, its not a top of the line paint job, but its pretty nice
Theres no rust except for a couple little little spots, I'd consider it a rust free car for the most part, but it is a 72'
I did most of the work, it was a real beater when I picked it up, but the drive train is the same as when I bought it, except for the coilovers in the front.
It is definitley a daily driver
I'm selling it because I just bought my wife a new bmw and I could use a little help on the down payment, plus all together we have 6 cars in the family and its only my wife and I that drive!

Thanks for the reply. LOL, I'm never looking for anything. ;) Like I said, I'm a 510 fan (and about a fan of 50 other vehicles too). I wouldn't mind rocking that thing to work for a while and throwing a little money into it.

I lived in Crestline in the late 70's and found out if we put 90w oil in the front shocks, the car would go up the back of Gregory like a slider cart!
Of course, you never wanted to battle any speed bumps!

Nice car. My parents used to belong to the Datsun Club back in the day and my Dad used to build alot of these cars along with Datsun Roadster and of course the Z car. Brings back alot of memories.
