Finally I am starting the ressurection of my 1980 Sunkisst gullwing. I have alot of ideas and lots of BLING to install. I have been asked several times to see pics so here they are. I will post pics as I make progress;)
The carpet was already stripped so I didnt have to strip that. Although, I did have to pull it out of the front of the hull and my big azz didnt fit in there! It was rough but I got it after 20 minutes.
I washed the inside of the hull with tide and water. I then cleaned all the grease from the gunwales.

Here are pics of the carpet install. Let me just say that it was a BIOTCH!! My back was killing me! Not to mention that I was higher than 10 kites after using that glue!!!! I also installed a brand new rack and pinion steering setup thanks to Tom @ Jetboatperformance. It was cake to install and the steering is very smooth compared to that rotary style.....

Mike, the carpet looks real nice. I know how you feel right now, the carpeting was the worst part of my jet's resurrection. I was sore for two days after I did mine. Even still, the finished product makes it all worth it!
I also just finished installing one of Tom's steering units into my tub. What a difference it will make when I finally get back on the water!
Keep plugging and keep posting the updates.

The dash is FINALLY done! I wired everything from scratch. I have all the basic guages plus a oil temperature guage. There are 3 switches on the dash. One turns on the guage lights, another one turns on the cd player and the last one is obviously for the bilge. Each switch has a light wired to it. I will be installing 2 more bezels for the 2 lights on the dash. I just need to get the right size. I also installed a kill switch that is hidden. The wires in the pics arent 100% done. Now they are all connected and ziptied;)
The next project will be the trailer.....

You can make it removable like mine. I will get measurements in the next few days for ya. All you do is cut within a 1/2-3/4 inches and the carpet allows for a press fit.

Stuff is comming along pretty damn smooth now. Here is what I have been doing lately....
In this set of pics I mocked up everything. You can NEVER be too sure on how things line up. I mearured everything 5-6 times. This is critical before you have them powdercoated.

http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/521/mock2.jpg
http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/521/mock3.jpg
As you can see in this pic a few holes arent lining up. I will fill then in and re drill. Also the handhole cover plate need to be built back up. After that i can sand it smooth. I will do this tomorrow and post the detailed pics.

I used the existing rideplate that came with the hull. It was bent but I wrapped it in towels and parked my denali over it for a few hours and now its straight.
I marked the plate on the pump and made sure I had clearance. Then I put it in the vise and locked it down. I drilled 4 1/4 holes through the plate.
http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/521/plate1.jpg
After all the holes were drilled I turned the plate over and counter sunk all the holes. This is somewhat time consuming. I used a bolt and cut very little each time until they were all flush.
http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/521/plate2.jpg
http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/521/plate3.jpg
I used a "Red" rolock disk to smooth the surface around the holes.
http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/521/plate4.jpg
Once all the holes were drilled, I resurfaces the whole plate. Don't mind the foot pedal with all the holes drilled in it, thats tomorrows project
http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/521/plate5.jpg
Once the stiffeners were done. I then mocked it back up to check for clearance once again;) When I do my final install I will add "AN" washers to the stiffener bolts.

Mike,
You could be setting yourself up for double work. I noticed in the pics that the suction housing wasn't bolted to the intake. You may have done this already, but if you haven't, take a second to go through this step to save some headaches later. Pull off the transom adapter, get the gasket between the housing and intake, then start all the bolts. Now head out back and mock up the cradle and ride plate assembly but don't pull anything tight. You'll probably need to wiggle everything around a bit to get everything lined up, but make sure you have the rear of the pump parallel to the rideplate/shoe/intake. Once everything is lined up, tighten down the suction housing.
With this done, you can be sure that whatever holes/clearance you make for the transom adapter at this point, will line up when the pump is installed in the correct position. You don't want to start drilling for the transom adapter if you haven't established this position for the suction housing.
Again, I apologize if you already did this and I missed the bolts holding the suction housing in place.
Outside of that little tidbit, the boat looks like it's commin along nice!
Chris

Thanks for the heads up Chris. I failed to mention that I did that yesterday. I did the wiggle thing for about 20 minutes. I will have to do a little shaving on the intake to make it match.
Thanks for the kind words Chris;) I am doing all of the work with hand tools  Its taking longer than expected but now that I see the parts that i made, I appreciate them more ;) I just cant wait till next week to fire up the polisher  All the parts will get polished. Nice Job 396. What do the stiffiners do. I have a ride plate and I am wondering if I need them. I might do it like you have them but maybe drill and tap blind holes in the stiffeners and bolt them in from the bottom of the plate with countersunk bolts. Just to keep everything smooth. Keep it up.

The stiffiners keep the plate from bending. I would through bolt the stiffiners, this way you get maximum strength and they dont come off;)

i was dropping off buggy parts at chromer yesterday, and noticed some of your parts there, i just dont think that grill is gonna look good on that boat, you tryin to start a new trend or somethin'?
on a side note, the powdercoater can shoot a chrome base under the kandy powder which just about matches polished aluminum, and it is quite a bit cheaper also, when we do the buggies, we use both a heavy silver metalflake under the kandy, or a chrome powder under the kandy depending on how bright we want the part.
