Me too but I'm bumed they did not put a 4.7 v8 in them. That 6 is a little wimpy for that size truck. I'll wait, I bet they do the 4.7 next year...

Dana 44's, locking diffs, sway bar disconnect. What's not to love about this truck. What other four door 4x4 could touch it off road?;)

Thanks for reminding me, I've got it on the DVR.:)
I sat in one at the dealer a few weeks ago and it has tons of room in it. It is also much nicer than the old TJ as far as a daily driver goes. If I was only gonna run trails with 2 people, I would get a TJ though. The JK will do a great dual-duty job.

You could not even find a 2007 4-door Rubi Unlimited 4 months ago in this state. They are still hard to find. Maybe you are thinking of the 2006 Unlimited Rubicon??? The one I just looked at had a $6,000 "market premium" on the sticker:rolleyes:

I bet he bought an X. Either that or he is a Rookie driver. Stock for stock you can't touch a Rubicon. Lets see a stock H2, H3, Ford, Chevy, whatever run the Rubicon trail bone stock:

I want one also but will wait for the prices to drop which probably will be at least a year. What really is strange is that chrysler is laying off 13000 employees and from what I read last week one location made jeeps.

Complete new from the frame up. Go to the dealers now and drive/sit in both. The big dealers will have both 2006 and 2007 on the lot. It will be very obvious. I had a 1997 which is the exact same as the 2006. The 2006 and older are more traditional Jeeps with no room inside, straight six motors, narrower track, basic creature comforts, etc. The 2007 is very different, more like a modern car/SUV.

If you are actually going to use the Jeep then I think the 4 door looks cool but in my opinion the Unlimited 2 door is the best performer simply because of the wheel base being 104 inches. The TJ and YJ are 94 which is too short and the 4 door has to be around 115 which would be too long in my opinion. Im sure you could do the Rubicon in a stock 4 door but your probably going to make good use of the winch.

No doubt that with only two people the SWB is better but the cool thing about the new 4-door is the room. I can tell you with two kids the 2006 Unlimited is still very tight. I was looking at them and the kids were cramped in the back. I sold my 1997 because we just did not fit in it after we had our second kid. The 2007 has tons of room and with a cheap and easy coil spacer lift you can run 35" tires and run some pretty tough trails.

Thinking back you are right, It was 3 months ago and I wanted one and the wife said NO, there were 2 on the lot in Havi and they were 07's. The wife said its just a toy to trash and Im not paying 30K for a toy to trash so we bought the X instead for 18K

My 97 Land Cruiser would have no problem. Cruiser's have factory F&R diff locks, And great supensions.
If you can fine one used, they are running about 10K. Should run 300k miles before overhaul.
Why do you have to disconnect the sway bar???

Exactly, and the LC looks like a big bulky suv. Actually Range rover makes a similar vehicle to your LC for about 80k.
BTW, I already own a real land Cruiser.;)

We have an '05 Unlimited (LJ). I must say it is nearly impossible to compare the two. They share the name extension Unlimited but that is all. The new JK is the only Jeep ever offered as a 2wd. Wild.
The thing I dont care for wheeling is the length. My unlimited is just a 15" longer TJ but the new unlimited is like a mini van compared. Mine is still cramped Jeep and the new ones are very roomy.
Are the '07's (JK) capable - Sure but the break over angles will affect it. '37 inch tires will help that dramatically. Run those tires hard and even a Rubi with a 44 in the front will break knuckles, shafts, and possibly a carrier. Do not run anthing larger than 33's with the non Rubi Dana 30 front.
The 6 speed (same in both LJ and JK) is the same unit used in the MBZ C based cars. Is it tough? To new to tell. Mine is knotchy as hell when cold.
The extream 4x4 show was pretty good. I am not a fan of those shows but the power block is coming around.

Why do you have to disconnect the sway bar???
Better have a good body guy because those things would get wrecked on every corner. Their Just too big and fat for a good trail. Also, you need to disconnect the sway bar to get full axle articulation, otherwise you limit your travel.

You could get the TJ in 2 wheel drive in Hawaii. I also believe there has been a couple other funky models added oversea's like a long wheel base YJ in the past. Lets not forget the ever popular "Mail Jeep" 2 wheel drive DJ with Right hand drive.
I'm just glad it did not get the IFS as it was rumored.

The IFS threat was a scary one. Glad the engineers kept what works best.
You right on about rental jeeps. I rented a YJ in Hawaii back in the late 80's.They came factory equipped with a xnfer case but no front drive shaft. It had a front diff though but I remember looking under it, stuck on a beach, seeing a factory jeep cover over the output shaft.
Were the TJ's in the rental fleet actual 2wd units? Then all the mail jeep versions...OK I stand corrected.:D I should edit to say "Avail. to the public";)
My last 4x4 was a International Scout II I had for many years. Wheeled the piss out of it. Should have kept it. I know way more about those than jeeps earlier then TJ's but I am learning.
I just signed up for the Jamboree in Big Bear. Never done a Jamboree and wanted to take the family on something and let the kids have others to play with. I hope I have the patience for it. The Big Bear one is the cheapest of all of them I think.

3,500 lbs...Its not a tow vehicle. 3.8 V-6 and crappy 4-speed auto. They really should have used the Dakota/Durango power train with the 4.7 and 5-speed auto.
