502 has long since been replaced by 23152(a) and/or (b) VC.
I have never heard a straight story on what "deuce" actually derived from. I have always assumed ( ) it was a play-on-word of DUI.
I don't believe the "legal limit" was ever .20 (possible meaning to deuce)
I don't see how it could be short for "duces tecum", which is just a subpoena.

In AZ the statute for DUI used to be "692.XX", now changed to 1381.XX. OUI used to be 342.XX changed to 395.XX.
So there may be some truth to the "2" in "502" being the basis for calling a DUI a "Deuce". It's possible that other jurisductions had a "XX2" for their DUIs also.

The last 3 Ca. Vehicle Codes for DUI ended in a "2".. 502 cvc, 23102 cvc, 23152 cvc.. Thats where the term "deuce" originated out here.. Drunk in public is 647(f) Penal Code, but most use the term "f" for drunks... Prostution is PC 647(b), so the term "B" is sometimes used for hookers... Some departments have their own internal codes for these, but the ones I gave you are universal in Ca.
