I have an 04 GMC LLY duramax and my oil pressure in 60 lbs. when running but in gear at idle it is 20-25 lbs. the localdealer tells me that that is fine for my year duramax the LLY. Is this correct does anyone else think this low? Thanks for your help.

Does the pressure increase with RPM?
I think my LBZ does the same thing. I'll double check on the numbers next time I drive.

Yea at a stop light it reads 20-25 lbs. then goes to 50-60 lbs. while driving. Let me know it that is the same on yours.

yep, completely normal for a dmax. they have a large oil cooler and when its in normal operating temp, it flowing alot thru the cooler and pressure will be alittle lower than at high way speeds(i'm foreman at a gm dealership).

no prob, sorry your dealership didn't explain it better to ya.a good service dept. will explain how something works and why it does whatever its doin to put the customer at eaze;) our little dealership doesn't have the quantity of cars the cali. dealerships do, but our rep keeps us busy:)

look under a new dmax and check out the exhaust system.i drove a new off the transport cab and chassis fri. and the exhaust looks like a flame thrower or jetplane exhaust nozzle. its got a bigger convertor now:mad: with pyro sensors on both sides of it to keep up with egt's.
all i can say about the new dmax, its badass:devil: me and 1 of the dealership owners went for a spin, i nailed it, 4 back tires went to smokin:D with a heavy azz flatbed on it.

I think the Duramax has oil spray nozzles that spray underneath the pistons; which gives the oil pressure lots of places to bleed it off. Other engines that utilize this feature tend to have lower idle oil pressure. I run 15-40 Amsoil synthetic marine/diesel oil in mine which gave it a couple more lbs of oil pressure.
