So ,Can anyone tell me who the manufacturer of this miniture hydro was??
It was built by one of Californias top Hot Boat builders.
There was a limited number of them built.
My brother and I each have one.
It measures 41" long and 17" across the sponsons.Has anyone else seen one before??
Now all I need is a little big block chevy.

Be a nice place to put a nitro chainsaw engine and some radio's in it and go fast, good looking hull!

Nice looking hull Riptide. I'm not going to have a guess at the manufacturer but it looks like a gem.
Funny you should bring this up as I have spent the last few days looking for replica engines for just this purpose. I have a 41" flatbottom and a 36" picklefork hydro along the same lines as your boat. If you hear of anything suitable I am interested, I thought a remote mounted electric motor with a dummy big block would be a sight!

Back in the late 1960's Jamie Brendel used to build those at his dad's boat shop. His dad of course being the late Irv Brendel of Hondo Boats. My uncle used to work there and built me a flatbottom the same size and gave it to me as a Xmas gift when I was a kid. I still have it ........so many years later.

About 10 years ago, I had Mike Oaks do some v-drive work for me. He was building one,
but it was larger and ran chainsaw motor in it. He was in W. Covina I believe. May still have a phone #. It was a really cool hydro- a true miniature replica. Good luck with the mini project Looks Good.

There is a company that builds a miniture Dodge Vipers with working miniture V-10 motors. The little motor actually puts out something like 7hp. I lost the link to the website, I'll try to find it though. It's something you have to see to believe. The V-10 can sit in the palm of your hand. You can buy the whole car or just the engine and a working diplay stand. They'll match the model to your Viper, right down to the vin number. I think the whole thing costs more than a PT Cruiser! Anyway, That V-10 would look bitchen in a boat like that.
As for the full sized counterpart to that hull, check this out:

Wow, This stirred up some conversation.
Yes it is a Sanger.
Dont know just how many there are kicking around.
I like the idea of the chainsaw motor or a weed whacker.
Would love to find a V-drive.
Saw in HotRod magazine ,years ago, a story about a minture V-8 that a guy was building.
Thanks for the imput.

Hi superlite,
Maybe we could start a junior hydro class in the IHBA.
I'll have to start looking for a driver.
Happy New Year.

spectas only,
thanks for the links, I've been to both places (a lot of sites are redirected to Horizon Hobbies). The jet has been a target of mine since the last time this subject was bought up, it is my choice for the picklefork as I would be attempting to re-create my real one.
For all out cool, it would be a gas to be able to put in a replica BBC, ( or, in the case of the flat, a Hemi if possible!). I'm absolutely positive I can fit in a hidden electric motor - my idea is not so much performance as looks.
As far as the flattie goes, it would have to be a v-drive! Now, how do we go about it?
My flat is just like any real project boat, it looks like it spent more time under water than on it! http://free.***boat.net/ubb/biggrin.gif http://free.***boat.net/ubb/biggrin.gif
I am fabricating my own cav plates and adjusters as well as the strut and skag, realism is my goal. Once again, my purpose is looks rather than speed, you can spend untold fortunes on this hobby just like the real thing. My (little) boats are the things that winter in Indy is for.....
Great thread.

Burbanite, the flatty I posted before ,has a real V-drive,but I'm afraid you have to make your own ,since I haven't seen one in hobby magazines. They have a huge model show in Chicago or Oshkosh ? ,where you can find real working V-eights with camshafts in modelboats. If I find the mag, I'll post it for you.An old machinist friend of mine[ past away years ago] has built numerous engines 4 cyl,6 cyl and radial engines as well.He also built and modified BMW boxer engines to OHC like some of the old rennsport racers. You can purchase like those from I think www.technopower.com (http://www.technopower.com) .If you only want one that looks like the real thing ,buy a Tamiya engine kit to wrap it around a powerful electric motor.www.saitoengines.com used to have inline engines as well.

burbanite, With the job you have I would think the v-drive would be the easy part. I bet you could use off the shelf gears and bearings and make your one cases pretty easy.
e-ticket, I remember Mike's hydro too. It must have been at least 10 years ago when I saw it too.
There is a little v-8 that would be killer for a large model boat. It is not done yet when these pics were taken. It uses heads from two 4 cyl. motorcycle engines. Block was custom made. It also was getting twin turbos! Some collage kids made it! The coke can is just so you can get an idea of the scale.

I can remember a write up on this engine back in the late 80's or early 90's.
From his news page he may also have been responsible for the V-10 mentioned by RTJason. More info at: Conley V8 (http://www.conleyprecision.com)

Hey 76 sanger hydro,
I wouldnt even know what it is worth. I doubt that Sanger is still making any.
If you know any one that could make a mold off of it . I would be up for that.
My brother also has one I will check with him ,on selling.

Whats up guys. There is an R/C boat shop in Fullerton called Toys for Big Boys. Years ago he built a small scale drag boat. It was a pickle fork hydro I believe. It was beutifully detailed, and had one of those scale chev V-8's. If my memory serves me right, he fabricated a scale matching V-Drive. It was featured a while back in RCBoatModeler, maybe SpectrasOnly can dig it up. I actually saw it in person when they were in Anaheim. I was blown away! He used a 1/4 scale '34 Ford 3-window coupe to tow it. It too had a working scale V-8. If the shop is still there, in Fullerton, it is off of State College. Great shop! Im sure he has plenty of info on the parts you may need. His name is bill I believe. Information probably has the #.

1quickjet, I'm still looking for that article with the V-drive boat in it,but can't find the damn thing. However,I found another engine [Offy]this guy made for mass marketing a few years ago,and he even made a foundry to make the casts.I'll post this article later. The only problem with these extremely expensive little buggers ,they don't make decent horsepower. There are a lot of model engine manufacturers, who make engines over 10 HP for aeroplanes/cars/boats ,that's more attractive to the masses of modelers ,with a more attractive price

My bad, Now that I think about it, that was an old issue of RCCarAction. The feature was the coupe, but there were a few pics of the boat. Looked cool in the mag, even better in person.
