It's all to maintain the illusion that gas prices aren't tied to oil prices...

I just took my boat off the market and look what happened! It shows that we are all interconnected and how delicate our economy is (and how reliant it is on the boating industry)

I saw the news about Greenspan's comments a few days ago, was wondering if they still have the impact they used to.

The market is down less than 5%? You must have one hell of a portfolio. But then, if that was true, what the hell would $100K be to you? Or did one stock you had crash and burn?
Sorry to hear either way!
This was predicted this morning after China market dropped 9% overnight.
If you're just an investor, stay put and you should be fine.

As a number, yes. As a percentage, not even close. The media is in the headline business. Just ignore it and look for bargains to buy.

Amen brother.....the media loves the headlines..."Market Disaster"...'Housing Crash"...etc...and then a couple of years later we are all talking about how good things are...most markets are LONG term investments and if you are jumping in and out of the stock market you need to be either very smart or very lucky....otherwise you will inevitably end up being punished by each up and down....just my .02.:)

CNN just reported that there was a technical glitch on the Dow which caused part of the problem. So I guess "film at 11"

He hasnt realized a loss unless he freaks out and sells all his shares. Like he said he will sit tight. Some investors will freak and think the sky is falling and sell everything. Others will spend some time tonight writing checks. If your as young as I am your happy to buy some shares at these low prices!

Greenspan was on this weekend, predicting a recession by years end.I guess he had a handle on things for years and seems to know deal.I believe that once the "SKY IS FALLING" attitude takes hold by the majority of the population is when real problems begin.Easy to say,but hope, and faith to hang in there.

Here is a copy of the Dow since inception.
Two things stand out:
1. It goes up and down a lot
2. The trend over time has been up, always up.

this is just the tip of the iceburg, just the beginning, people can say what they want, but bottom line is most people are in way over there heads and basically the cost of housing would make sense if the minnimum wage was about 100k a year but thats not the case, alot of changes headed our way, just my o2.

He is partially to blame for this drop due to his reckless comments.
He is on the speech tour now, needs to garner interest in his appearances, but unfortunately his off the cuff remarks still can have trillion dollar consequences.
Thanks

Well, since I started this yesterday, I should close up with this: as you all saw, the last hour pulled up a bit. My losses between Dow and NASDAC and mutual funds came to about $85K or about 2.6%. However, as can be imagined I've been in the market a while, had a great second half of '96 and early '97, so I've stopped my whineeing. I've recoved a bit this AM. Therefore, the Top Gun won't be for sale (yet). See you at Mead
