If you're looking for a pool designer/ architect, there was a guy on the boards who designed pools for a HUGE and VERY reputable outfit in Arizona. His scren name is Scorpionbikiniteam.. He's now in San Diego and can design whatever your imagination will come up with.
To my knowledge Jeff Kerber doesn't build pools. He only finishes or remodels them... Otherwise Blue Haven I.E. wounldn't use him so much ;) :D
You can probbly get intouch with him through thr RRX boards, or maybe riverracerx has his contact info..

LOL, in the pool business, you are right...
And people wonder why c53 and roofing C license are so hard to get.. I swear some of these companies are so damn crooked, you'd think they were building boats or tansporting trash :D

I used a great pool designer who does pool design and, for $500 one-time payment more, he'll provide a list of qualified contractors and provide the quotes and schedule the work (for owner-builder pool projects). Problem is he and the contractors all work in the Santa Clarita and San Fernando Valley areas.
Go owner-builder and save yourself a pile o' money. :)

MMDan has seen my pool in person. I think he liked it ;)
I designed it but my contractor is the BEST! We did owner/builder and he managed the entire project from front yard to back.
If you need his info, PM me or get me through my board.
I have photos as well.

Yup, I did the same thing... You'd be surprised what you can do with a little creativity..
Thinking of selling my house to buy another just so I can design and build another pool :D
This time I'm going to run pool and spa equiptment completely seperate and give the "vision" of water features spilling into each other... ;)

Whats a rough ball park for something like that? Alot of guys at work are doing "owner/builder" and are telling my they're getting $120k pools (similar to RRX's)done for like $55/60k

Im actually doing the same thing..Owner/ builder deal.. I designed the pool myself and hired all of the subs( demo guy, digging and formwork, electrical and plumbing, gunite, stone work, plaster etc)Theres kind of alot to do in the beggining but I think it'll be worth it when its done. I should have around 40K into my pool when its all done. I was told it would of cost me around 80k to have a pool contracter do it.Hopefully everything goes smooth :220v: :) Im starting mine on Jan 2nd and hope to have it gunited by jan 12th if eveything goes ok..Im praying that it dosent rain :)

In Santa barbara ya wouldn't want to know. I will be the first to tell you, you can save a good chunk of change by owner/builder. BUT: you can get super focked over if you don't research your subs. You would not belive some of the shit I've seen and problems you can have a year after your project is done, and most of the mistakes you end up fixing cost double what you save. Do it with licensed subs, and be carefull. I hate to see you look out your window one day and wonder why one end of your pool is dropped 1" and your putting 2"s of water in a week. :D Good luck.

If you don't mind me asking...what did that cost you? I know you sub'd it out yourself right? I'm also hoping to do a pool next year and these details would greatly help out.

My pool would have cost 1/2 if I didn't have the rock. The rock work will put your wallet in a tailspin. It took them 2 1/2 months JUST to put the rockwork in. And if you don't get a good rock guy you will be F'ed. I know a guy who hired a company who said they could do rock work. Let's just say nicely that they used the same material with VERY different results.
I did owner builder but my contractor is a licensed masonry company (thus the rock work) but he has been building pools as owner/builder for over 20 years. So he managed and subbed the entire job. He did everything in my yard: concrete, patio cover, BBQ house, retaining walls, fountain, courtyard, pool, grass, plants, trees and sprinklers. The whole package deal brought a lot of my costs down.
Here are some older photos right after we filled it:

Very nice RRX. I just went through doing my backyard up. I didn't do a pool but we did an oversized spa with a huge waterfall, built-in BBQ, Patio Cover, Concrete, Landscaping etc. I spent about 60K when all said and done. I added and upgraded a lot of stuff along the way. I could of added a pool for another 10K but I didn't want the upkeep. I had about 20 different bids before I chose one. This company was 15K cheaper than any of the other bids, plus the spa, waterfall, BBQ, and sq feet of concrete was a lot bigger and they did great work. I am happy with the work they did. I agree the rock work is key. It took them 2 weeks just to build the waterfall. It is all boulders with some pieces of slate stone. Just moving the boulders was a job in it-self.

Just for perspective...a leap from the top rock is 10 1/2 feet from the rock to the surface of the water. It is like a cliff dive. Also fun to rock climb across when the water is falling.
