what horsepower is this merc

My 1988 2.4 xri with Lazer injection was rated at 220 hp. I think that was bull as it ran cleaner than the carb version but no better.

is the laser just the injection system for merc. or what are they just based off the 200 merc. and fuel injection adds 20 hp or what

Does it say Laser on it? It would be 220 if so. In my experience 20hp doesn't make much diff and the efi just makes it idle beter and a little (not noticeable really) midrange punch. Top end will be very close to a carb motor.

Ron - didn't I just say that?
Mercury rated the injected engine higher to convince us that fuel injection was the way to go. It had the identically same porting, compression, etc. as the carb engine rated at 200 hp.

its fuel injected and cowl was repainted but they only put the xri sticker on the front cover
