I was issued my new "company car" today.
'07 Expedition XLT.
I only drove it for a little while, but already I can put out a fairly good comparison with my '07 Tahoe.
I'll have further details once I get accustomed to the Ford, but at this point, I'm glad I bought the Tahoe.
(The Expedition is unmarked, so you won't see me sneaking up on you any more. :D )

My wife and I have an '07 Expedition as a rental right now while our '07 Escalade is in Pixi's body shop. I also use an '06 Tahoe for my company vehicle. The Expedition is a POS. It feels unsafe on the freeway, just an over all cheap feeling vehicle. Kind of like turning a Focus into an SUV.
Their's defenitly no comparing it to the Escalade, but the Tahoe is a far better vehicle.

Is the tahoe a little underpowered for pulling a big boat?? Ive towed mine with an escalade and it pulled great . just curious

And Motortrend gives the edge to the Tahoe..

From what I learned from reading both articles they are both excellent vehicles, GM won me over with their new body style, decent fuel economy and newly designed interior.. The Ford sure does have more storage and a larger 3rd seat than the Chevy.

From what I have read the Tahoe's 5.3 can get "doggy" with larger loads. If I were pulling a large, heavy boat I think I would opt for the 6.2 found in Denalis and in the Caddy, from what I understand they are awesome motors.

Interesting articles, but I don't understand why motortrend would compare an '07 GM to a '06 Ford. I believe the '07 Fords had some significant changes, i.e., 6-speed tranni.

It feels unsafe on the freeway,
Could you elaborate on this or bring up some facts from tests ?

I'd take most Edmunds SUV and Truck comparison tests with a grain of salt. Don't forget they ranked the Titan as a "most wanted" a few years back.
When I was ready to buy an SUV daily driver, I researched and drove everything. The Ford, Nissan, Toy, Dodge, Denali, Tahoe, and even the mid-size Lexus. Ended up with an '07 Tahoe LTZ and couldn't possibly be happier. Chevy really stepped up with interior quality in 2007, and the 100,000 mile warranty was icing on the cake.

Now that I've driven it for a while I can give more input. I've had training in Blythe for the past few days, so I've put highway miles on it, in addition to driving it around town.
The Expedition drives like a truck. Rough, Noisy, stiff, just plain Truck-like. Just for the heck of it, I lowered all the windows at around 70 MPH, and the truck acted like both front wheels were 180 out of balance. Vibrated like hell. It seems a whole lot smaller in the cabin. Felt like I was driving an Explorer, rather than the full size Expy.
It's got the fuel mileage readout, and in similar driving situations (speed. terrain, etc) appears to be 3-4 MPG (avg)lower than the Tahoe. (In fairness, this is a 4x4, while my 'Hoe is 2WD) Gauge layout is busy and kind of hard to decipher at a glance. The red light on the gear select readout is distracting. To me, a red light on the dash means trouble.
Granted, this is a Government buy, and doesn't have some of the creature comforts of my 'Hoe. But after careful comparison, it's the Tahoe hands down.

Alan , Ford must make a special edition Expedition just for you guys:D . Don't know how you can compare interior size of the Expy to an Explorer's though  :) . I have friend's with Tahoe and a Denali and I can't see how they are bigger inside than my Navigator ;) :jawdrop: . I have fully independent suspension with air ride [ 07 Exp has it now versas Tahoe's live axle ], and it rides like a Town car , even with the suspension turned off. Traction & stability control works great .You can throw this thing on a slalom course without a hint of loosing control . I thought Ford upgraded the 07 Expy to a level of the Navigator in many ways ,with less bells and whistles .Send the unit back and ask for another one . :) Another thing , I can't stand cheap column shifts in any vehicle ;)
Here's my crappy SUV :supp:

Maybe the truck feel is one reason the 5.4 Expi can tow more than the Tahoe.

I haven't towed with the Tahoe, yet. That's what my GMC P/U is for.
As far as the Expedition, I haven't had the chance, yet. But I'll be going to Vegas to pick up the new 21' Whaler (about 6,000 lbs w/trailer) in a month or so.
I'll have better feedback then.

I'm curious about that too , since I tow my boat that's 8350 .bs on the trailer, no problem.
Ford went back to SOHC 3 valve Triton from the Intech DOHC 4 valve for the new Navi as well . Intech's max torque comes in at 2750 rpm versa Triton's higher rpm's .
