Lions and quagga and zebra mud snails, oh my!
They're not gonna be able to contain this. And after a couple lawsuits from blasting the paint off trailers, boats, trucks, etc. with a pressure washer and this will be all over. The same Chicken Little (sky is falling) approach was taken in CA with the "dreaded" zebra mud snail. After a year or so, this invasive too has been forgotten.

Guagga and Zebra muscles are the same thing from what I have read. In any event, I would like to see them attempt to impound my boat. How the fukk did this "law" get past us? Seems they may be overstepping their authority a bit:rolleyes:

you forget... using the lake is PRIVLAGE not a right. They can pretty much do what they want in reguards to who they let on and off the lake.

Unfortunately, it looks they are just delaying the inevitable.

I did not forget. I'm not talking about lake access. I am talking about TAKING my personal property. Turn me away, that is fine but take my boat--WTF?
People think this is OK? We are in trouble. The reign of the socialist democratic liberal party. Gotta love those clowns:rolleyes:

you already signed a document waving that right... you remember when you got your Drivers license.
They are not just trying to protect the water way, they are trying to save untold ammounts of money latter on. These mussle can do milions in damages every year... that money has to come from some where.

Wrong again. I live in AZ and there is not any attached waiver that I signed that my DL gives them the right to take my boat if I have Zebra Mussels attached to it without my knowledge. Can you show me the law? I would love to see it.
I understand the intension but the boat impoundment thing is a joke. A healthy fine would serve as a nice deterrent. Next thing you know they will be confiscating cars for driving over the speed limit. Where does it end?

Also, you don't need a DL to drive a boat. Get your facts straight.

Best have your boat clean and dry when you hit the Ag. inspection stations.
Heard they will NOT let you through...

Naw, they're actually different critters. I edited my original post to be more clear. Relax folks, the "experts" will soon realize that there will be no controlling this invasive species. The hype will slow down, I promise. But when quagga mussels start covering the barstools at my favorite watering hole, I'll be pissed.

no but you do to drive a car... its not like your boat floated there.
I'm not sure about AZ laws( ask boat cop) I would assume they have something simlar to what CA has. I know when you travel is any state, you are subject to that states laws... you don't like it... stay out of that state.

so your saying your boat did not have to go on a trailer to get there?

I think you are over reacting. They are trying to stop the spread of these things. They are not going to take your boat. I had to stop at the agricultural station on the way back from Parker, heading to Socal, on sunday. They just inspected the trailer and boat, it was no big deal. Just do your part to stop the spread of these things, as they are not good for boating either.

Quagga, Zebra, and similar mussels are restricted species, as set by AZ law and AZGFD Rules.
Possession or transport of restricted species into or within the State is a crime and any items used to transport restricted species is subject to seizure. It's the same as bringing in non-native species such as Northern Pike or South American Piranha. We don't want those things in our waters.
Now this doesn't mean that the AZGFD or NPS will seize your boat and keep it, because it inadvertently has Zebra or Quaggas attached to it. It does mean that they may seize it for decontamination to protect the waterways.
It's not enough just to turn you away. If found they will REQUIRE that the infestation of the vessel is neutralized.

I did notice that when I left the River on Sunday they actually had someone at the inspection station and were VERY thurough on checking boats coming through....at first I was like WTF???, but then I remembered the muscles. I honestly dont mind the extra time spent as long as it means we will be SLOWING the spread of these things.

I had to make a few trips to SOCAL over the past couple of weeks and saw that the inspectors were out in force at Vidal Junction. Saw 1 boat off to the side getting inspected.
Now, I've had training in Blythe over the past 3 days and there were NO inspectors at the I-10 AG Station. Traffic just cruising through. Maybe they don't think boats from Havasu, Mead or Mohave come through this way. :jawdrop:
Way to get tough California.
