View Full Version : What Kinda Heat do you pack,, and when?

I was standing behind the Wifes S2000 gassing it up at the local Shell station.
She had the top down and was sitting at the drivers seat.
A scary nut case rolled up and started giving us friction.
I looked into the car and the wife opened her purse to reveal a walnut handle with the SW/scrambled eggs logo.
I knew she packed heat, she works near USC at nite, and has a violent prone ex lurking around. Stunned me when I saw quiet, compassionate Alice ready to shift her 357 flamerite into gear.
Never go into the wifes purse or daughters room,, bad chick vibes hit me like a death ray.
What kinda Roscoe do you pack and when?

I normally don't carry on my person when I'm out, but when we travel or are out at night I usually have something in the center console or the Excusion or wife's Infinity just incase we get car jacked or????? I either carry a S&W 9mil or a Glock 9 mil. BTW I have a CCW so I can carry concealed in the car or truck.

yeah... I can get a ccw hear in Kern County easy..... but I never felt that I needed it here.... now when I am in LA County I feel it could be needed in some areas.... but the Kern CCW would not help..... so I have not bothered..... I guess I will only be able to blow away a bad guy at my house... :(

Glock 22 chambered for S/W .40 cal.
I have it with me 24/7 x 365.
I've got a badge and a CCW, so I'm doubly covered.
A lot of new Officers ask me if they should carry off duty. I ask if they carry their flat badge, and they usually say yes, and ask why.
I tell them, because they should never carry one, without the other.

Theres only been one time when I wished I had a gun with me. I had a drunk pull a gun on me in a parking lot claiming I tried to run him off the road. Its a scary feeling looking down the barrel of a gun pointed at you. I have on occasions thrown my piece in the car with me. A Ruger GP100 revolver. I have a couple of autos but that revolver is guaranteed to shoot everytime and I can shoot it very well.

That is so true. We had the LASO deputy here a few years ago that was killed in a hair salon when he and his girlfriend stopped to visit with her friends. A couple of guys came in and robbed the place and the bad guys got his wallet with badge in it. They executed him right there.
We also just had the Home Depot murder here. Makes you think how many times you are in places like that and how easily and quickly you could be involved in and Off duty incident.

Sac county is the same way...
Working at a gun store, starting before sunrise and some times leaving after dark was not a good reason to get one...( the Permit for the store only covered when you were on the clock. the only way to rob that place was when employees were going or coming out... since no one was armed)
now as a contractor carrying thousands( some times 10s of thousands) in cash was not a good reason... hell we had one guy come in that owns a "quick stop" place in a bad part of town... he had been robbed at gun point 7 times in 6 months and that was still not reason enough to get one.
i don't think there has been a CCW issused in years that was not a cop/retired, or a personall friend of family member of the sheriff.

I carry a Sig 226 at work and a Sig 239 every other time. There are only two times when Im not armed. When I go to the gym because I won't leave it in the car and when I go out drinking. Otherwise I never leave home without it. When I want to go light weight I carry a S&W 340PD.

Federal .45 caliber HST
A Federal .45 ACP HST bullet (P45HST2) emerging from, but still in, the 5" barrel of an S&W Model 4506, complete with gas being blown ahead of it. (Average muzzle velocity 900 fps, 414 ft-lbs of energy, and 21,000 psi.) Note the amount of infrared light that's being emitted around the bullet, and the little smoke plume above the ejection port. The action was caught using an invisible infrared trigger beam system (1,000,000th-second response time). Flash duration was 1-2,000,000th-second.
Note also the dramatic projectile deformation and expansion to approximately .90 caliber(!) in the 6-inch x 6-inch x 2-inch block of calibrated 10% ordnance gelatin. When Federal/ATK blurbs that "HST is engineered for 100% weight retention and impressive expansion," it's not just "press kit hyperbole." The 230-grain HST typically penetrates between 12¾ and 13½ inches in 10% gelatin. Most of the well-designed bullets of today will exhibit mature or near-mature expansion when fired through two-inches of gelatin.
Sale of P45HST2 ammunition is restricted to Law Enforcement agencies at this time.

There's another part that scares the shit out of me. Dealing with any potential repercussions. Here in CAli, I doubt I'd want to try to explain why I killed someone to a judge. I don't think you/we can walk away from something like that without some sort of legal consequences. Like I said, unless it was my wife and kids or someone like that I was defending, would I take such a risk.

I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6. If someone trips the mental trigger you have set in your mind of what necessitates you using deadly force against them, then you know (having set that trigger mentally, while you were thinking rationally) that you are in the right.

with "target" 38s not bad... with 357 hurts like a bitch...
They are not made to be shot a lot. the small sight picture does not help ether.
Its pratice with target loads, then the last time you reload shoot what you would use in selfdefence. You need to make sure you can handle the recoil before you need it. even .38s will work up close...

I would be hesitant to fire full power .357 in that gun. A follow up shot with that round in that gun is near impossible. I know Smith says it can handle 357 but the Scandium used in the gun and the lack of metal due to its small size will drasticly reduce the life of the gun

The P89 is a fine weapon. Ruger autos are known for being no frills weapon systems. Iam a firm believer that anyone can learn to shoot any size weapon just as long as they are willing to practice and learn the weapon. Most physical issues can be delt with with proper technique and practice....
And practice does not make perfect......perfect practice makes perfect!!!!!

The best thing I ever found for CC was a par of pants that had a built in, "inside the pant" hulster. It was ridged and had a panel built in to help break up the out line. I bought them at a gun show in reno several years. back... i wish I could find another pair. Only thing I ever found that you could completely hide a 1911( other then the top, but a shirt/vest/ jacket did a good job of that.) and was confrotable.

I carry different weapons depending on dress and other factors.
(I have a retired ID from a California Sheriff's Office, authorizing concealed carry)
In summer, a .380 PPK-S in a clip holster in the shorts.
In the boat, a S&W #66 .357 Mag. stainless, 4 inch barrel.
In the winter, a SIG 229 in .40 S&W.
I am now disabled and wouldn't want to get into a fist fight, it could easily put me in a wheeelchair. So, I don't leave home unarmed, I put too many bad guys away that will never forget my face, and I sure as hell can't remember all of theirs.

Exactly. It's funny how many times you see guys carrying something, and you can EASILY tell what they are doing. Especially at the gas station. Stuff just sticks out...
Fannypacks = gun...
And this whole time I thought Fannypaks = Fag. And I though fags only packed fudge.

.410 out of a short rifled barrel would be extremly deadly up close. Rifled barrel would spin the shot coming out of the barrel which would make it spread out alot in a short distances... At 10 ft it would most likly blow a 4" hole in anything it hit.

LOL....I blow your f'ing head off!!! And, it was a .25. That .32 wouln't hit the side of a barn with ammo. Ex-wife took the .32 anyway - without telling me. It was a throw down I bought from a "retired" cop, so I really didn't like having it.

During the first of his MANY years of higher edgamacation at SDSU,Holy Moly decided to take matters into his own hands. His upscale apartment complex had suffered a series of thefts, primarily car stereos.
Strapped with a 32 Pearl grip pistola he waits.
Catching one in the act he drives the 32 into the temple of one of
the vandals.......
calling out "If you dont want me to kill your friend surrender"
When the police arrive they give HM some sound advice.

Dirty harry had nothing on this... 600 nitro express... in a hand gun (http://my.break.com/media/view.aspx?ContentID=221225)
let me put it this way... there are only "sporting" rounds that are more powerfull
the 700 Nitro express and the 460 whearby. The 460 has almost 9000 foot pounds engery...
To give you a idea of how strong that is... a hot .30-06 would top out at about 3k... a 50 bmg tops out at about 13k with a depleted uranium bullet.

Mostly true. But I was not lying in wait. I was supposed to drive out to glamis the next day (with you). I was up late cleaning my guns (.25 pistol, .32 pistol, and .22 rifle. I thought, what the heck....I would stay up real late and watch what kind of traffic the condos got. After David Letterman ended at 1:30 (back when he was on NBC), I go to the kitchen, look out the window and see a kid trying to break into my truck. My guns are lying on my coffee table....unloaded since I just cleaned them...and I grab one and run out with it just to scare the kid off. Well, the driver panicks and floors it thru the parking area and it is just starting to rain and he crashes into a couple of cars in a car port. I was chasing after him trying to get his license plate when he crashed. Well his truck is messed up bad, and about 6 kids come piling out of the back of the shell and we are like "hi." I run up to the driver, and he just opens his door when I stuff the barrell in his temple. I know the gun is not loaded and all can think about is Eddie Murphy talking about how black people act crazy so they don't actually have to fight....so I scream at the kid...."give me the keys or I'll blow your fukking head off!!!" And, I am shoving his head hard with the barrel. The kid in the passenger seat mouths off that I got nuthin on them...and I scream like a crazy sum bich "you want to get your friend killed?!?!?!?" The kid hands me the keys and I backup about 10 ft. I take a look at the kids and they are all highschool kids where letterman jackets (white vinyl sleeves with dark suede like main). I figure the kid doesn't own the truck and that it was probably his dad's. I look around, and no one has come out of their condo...and the crash made a big noise, not to mention me screaming at the kids. I tell the kids, I am gonna go call the cops, and if they are stupid, they will take off. Well, I run back to my place and call the cops and the kids take off. When the cops show up, there are a ton of residents. They are telling the cops that there was this mad man with a gun threatening to blow people's heads off....dote! I tell the cop exactly what happened, hand him my gun and he takes a report. He gives me my gun back, and does tell me that if I am ever in the same situation, make sure my gun was loaded, but he found it quite amusing of my Eddie Murphy story. He also told me never to get closer than 5 feet as someone would could take my gun....I told him..so what...it wasn't loaded, and crazy at 5 ft wasn't as good as crazy with the barrel to someone's temple. He laughed and just told me to go get some training, mostly so I didn't get hurt. LOL.
Oh, and they caught the kids down the street...easy find with their jackets. They also found several car stereos and other stolen goods in the back of the truck that had been stolen that night. And, the truck was owned by the kid's dad. One guy called me up to thank me and said he wouldn't have been able to keep from shooting one of the bastards. I told him the gun wasn't loaded, and then he told me about some of the stories circulating the complex....from hero to nut job.

Like the movie "My Blue Heaven"
Ju know, we shot him in the head with a .22. I don't like to use a .45 because it blows the back of their head out and gets blood all over the curtains and the carpet...a real mess. You know how hard it is to get blood out of the carpet? Pop a .22 in the head, it goes in, rattles around a bit, and he falls over dead, no mess.

i dont carry, even though i own quite a few guns. i do carry a knife and i know where all your main arteries are. besides do you really have the balls to pull that trigger. hahahah
I've seen lots of stabbings and gun shot wounds over the years, and stabbings are way more lethal. Up close and personal. It is such an intimate way of killing someone. If you're gonna do it, do it right.
I don't carry but I have a safe full of toys. Not because it's illegal, it's just too much responsibility with the kids and all. I try to keep myself outta $hitty situations as best as I can.
So far so good. Hope my luck holds out.

Like STV Keith said, would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6. Additionally, I have applied for a CC Permit twice and been denied. Not because of anything "negative" in my background, but it is just extremely hard to get in CA. :(

Back when I was the manager at West Coast Customs I carried a Glock .40 with me. I was in constant contact with shady and nefarious characters plus I was driving high end automobiles all the time. I don't even need to mention the amount of cash I had on my person when doing business there. I wasn't going to be anyone's L.A. car jacking bitch. That was all before Pimp My Ride though. I bounced right before the show was to start after 8 years with them. Haven't needed to carry a piece since.
