this may sound stupid,however has any one just rivited the top to the bottom without the rub rails and then painted the entire boat?i do not use the docks at the lake we go to.

I am not sure if its the same thing or not but many of these newer boats are getting "capped".
See on this photo that its all one seemless connection. Probably a ton of bondo work and how they work that back into the gel coat is beyond me.
