If you're talking about the checkers, I believe you said it's a Spectra, not an Eliminator. :D :D :D

Give that thing an originAL STYLE GEL SCHEME. NOTHING LOOKS WORSE THAN TAKING AN OLD CLASSIC BOAT AND TRYING TO "MODERNIZE IT" WITH A CONTEMPORARY GEL SCHEME. AN OLD BOAT IS SUPPOSE TO LOOK OLD WITH CLASSIC PATTERNS/DESIGNS AND COLORS. IF YOU REALLY WANT TO DO THE BOAT A FAVOR FIND OUT WHAT THE ORIGINAL COLORS WERE AND PATTERNS AND TAKE IT BACK TO THE OLD SCHOOL.

It's bad enough some jackhole cut the ol' girl for an open bow. At least save a little of her dignity and do a simple straight forward gel design that is appropriate for the age and style of the boat. Spectra's gel designs were as simple as it gets. If you're an experienced painter, shouldn't be very hard at all to replicate. Do a quick search on here for Spectra and Schida pics, then go over to SpectraMarine.com and look at the old adds. Pretty easy to see how things should be on that boat.
On the bright side, looks like you got the motor out, so you should be able to flip her pretty easy now.

Its just so sacreligous though. Cutting an old classic boat open. The nerve of whomever did it.

Checkers = Bad
I dont think I could take a sawzall to my Spectra but I wouldn't mind seeing some more pics of the walk through and seating area.
I know I know it looks haggard but that's why it's considered a project. I actually like the open bow, I can fit alot more people than I normally could and it just makes that big boat more comfortable and carry some peeps easiar. Caution:I got a good deal I think for this boat so it is STILL a project. I don't have the money like some you guys got...

Oh yea, You guys talked me into it... no checker stripes.
But you guys got any other idea for some racy stripes? As much as I like the original paint on Spectras I really want something that stands out a little with some bright colors. I'm decent at making stripes but I want something different but I guess I'm just not creative enough to make my own.
You guys got any ideas?

Put the checkers on it, but don't forget the wakeboard tower & chain steering wheel.

Late 80's?? more like 1980. If you had them in the late 80's... :D :D
I have to agree about "Classic" lines/Gel. Believe it or not... they really do become timeless after all these years. Do it up picaso. :)

Its a sad day, people butcher their boats and then try and make it look good.
dont get ahead of yourself fix the rotting plywood and peeling carpet and all underlying problems first, there is nothing worse than a boat that looks great but has a ton of problems............

No no no, I like to get it functioning good first, motor pump etc. Then I would do the paint because that's what I've been doing for years. And then I'll save money for interior because I am not skilled in that department:confused:

The pics in this thread (http://www.***boat.com/forums/showthread.php?t=139524&highlight=schiada+pics) should give you some ideas of what we mean by classic and timeless.
BTW, I know you have experience with paint, but that is a bigger boat, and with an open bow, it's gonna see more abuse than a hard deck (it's just a fact of life). The prep you are going to have to do in order to provide a clean canvas to work with is the same for gel or paint. With that in mind, spray the gel and put in the extra time sanding after the fact. This way you aren't in a position where a beat up paint job has to be re-applied in a couple years. The bulk of the work ahead of you is before you bust out he spray gun, so think 2x before you settle on paint.

That is a great thread! Many beautiful boats. I am becoming VERY tolerant of v-drives after looking at all that.

Something to keep in mind. When I got my open bow, I thought the same thing... more room for people in the bow. I found out that the ride is rough and (sometimes) downright dangerous in the bow seating. I won't let anyone sit in the bow when I'm on plane any longer. I would think it would be worse with your boat as it looks as if there is no drop below the cushion for your feet. In effect, everyone would be sitting crosslegged. I can't beleive I'm saying this since I dislike the look so much, but KEEP THE BOWRAIL! If you have people in the bow seating, it may be the only thing keeping them in.
