As some of u already know, I recently decided to order a new 23 ft Placecraft. I have recently read about the scary insurance rates on cat hulls. I checked with my insurance co. (AAA) and got the following rates:
$744 a year,w/500k in coverage including boat/trailor. Thats with a boat value of $55,000 and a trailer value of $3,500, with the 496 mag. They also offerred me the "Winter lay off" rate of $609 (thats with the boat being parked and not in the water between Nov-April). Please note, this winter lay off rate does cover theft/fire/ect.
It just does not cover if boat hits the water. The agent also told me if I go with the winter lay off and if I want to take the boat out, its a matter of just making a phone call ( you know, all this talk about this dum global warming, I guess its bad for the environment but good for us..ha just kidding).
By the way, all this was with a zip code area of Santa Clarita ca. (Compton might be a lil higher, ha).
I have had AAA for years, They've been great to me....Finsfan (aka Raider hater)....

Seems like a good rate and AAA is a reputable compny.:)
We had our Cole with them for 2 years and then all of a sudden we got a letter stating they were non renewing us because it wa sa performance based boat.(454 Jet that maybe did 55)
We argued with them and they reinstated the policy.

I pay $715 per year for my Conquest deck boat. Your options for a new boat sound about right.

Ha, Ha, both!:D When I'm just cruising around it really does ok on gas. When you see the boost start to climb is when things get expensive. Actually, my insurance is less than Blown Dough.

If a person has a 300k,400k,500k boat why would they need a 6 month layup?
Why not pay the extra 5 grand and be able to go out all year. That is only really one extra boat payment......

never ceases to amaze me....
Good= deckboat has cat bottom that carries 14 drunk people 70 mph...
Evil = Cat also has cat bottom that carries 5-7 drunk people 70 mph.....

We have a 4 month layup and to tell you the truth, that is perfect. I don't need to go to the lake all year long and if you have a boat like mine, it needs work after running all summer. I love the lake but I also love to race during the winter months.

If I really wanted to have another boat I could. I love those big fast boats but I wouldn't want everything else that comes with it. Too much to clean. I'd be happy with something around the same size as your boat. That 28' bullet will be in my garage one of these days. :D :D

AAA will write the policy, take your money, then send you a letter a month later with a "sorry your boat is too fast" note and cancel your policy. Happened to me with my Ultra, I had been with them for years. I'd be shopping for a back-up policy right now if I were you.

AAA has covered me for 7 years on a 70mph boat that is used primarily in Lake Havasu and Parker. And I have been 100% honest on everything about it. Not too mention they keep reducing my premium every year. 7 years ago it was around $400/ year. Its now below $200.

They cancelled my 2004 Ultra 24 Stealth 496 Mag. Said it was capable of speeds in excess of 70 MPH (it wasn't, HB tested that model at 66 MPH on GPS). I told them this, they said that they audited my file and that was their finding--end of discussion.:(

That sucks. I told them straight from the begiining that my boat could hit 70mph and they didn't have any problem with it. I've also heard people say that AAA won't cover boats used on Lake Havasu. Not true. They told me it wasn't a problem and no where in my policy does it state any places the boat can't be used.

Id try anpac.com, I know they wont do cats anymore, but a v at that speed they might. Our twin 496 cat was only 1200 the first yr with them. :) I just dont know what their cutoff is anymore.
