Just got the other Cheyenne off the dolly trailer back on the road trailer and got the dolly trailer loaded up in the big trailer. I had never carried this dolly trailer in my enclosed and had to rework the tongue so that the left picklefork wouldn't hit the side cabinets at the front of the trailer. I've known Ervin since the early/mid 80's. Met him when I put together the first TX-19 that I ever rigged.

Alright 1R.......... Where do I pick up an application?....... We finally got back from Arkansas last night about midnight. 22 hours on the road, 1000 mile round trip. Stopped in OKC on the way back and had supper with the Seitsinger clan, and thanks, Bob, for supper. Got into Eureka Springs about 9 Friday night. Driving up through the mountains, kept seeing a set of tail lights, then they'd disappear. Finally figured out that it was the rear of my own trailer. Those mountain roads are killer. That was a joke, by the way. Ken, since you've been to his new shop, imagine dropping off the road into his parking lot with a 30' enclosed trailer. That was the most exciting part of the trip, and well, maybe pulling back out on the highway. I am very happy with what I see. Ervin did an excellent job. Don't want to disclose too much, but boat came in under the target weight. Inside is awesome. I'll get started setting the intake Tuesday and roll the boat Wednesday afternoon to do the keel. All I need now is to sell a few more of them. THANKS ERVIN, YOU DID A DAMN NICE JOB, NOW FIX YOUR DRIVE SO I DON'T RIP ALL THE TRIM OFF THE BOTTOM OF MY TRAILER TRYING TO GET IN THERE. Pictures at 11.

CS19......... We will be running a Schmidt 500" DRCE II Olds and Owen's gearbox with a pump of our own mixture. I've got the engine apart right now, freshening it up.This is not Zellmer's old engine. I've been asked that a lot. Full race, Pro Gas Jet. Who knows, we may end up running in the PWC class.

the engine gonna make more hp than zellmers did?

sdba069

According to Schmidt's dyno sheets and what Zellmer was advertising his at, we'll make a little more. There are a lot of considerations to think about. We are going to run ours, basically, the way it came out of the car, as far as cam and such. It showed to make good power at the RPM we plan on turning it, but there may be a better cam, we'll just have to see how everything works. It did make peak power several hundred RPM higher than what we are planning on turning it though. We expect to spend at least one season just trying to sort things out. I have a data acquisition system on the way and that should help quite a bit.

Wow, this thing should be stout.
What data logger are you running?
My quikdata was worth every penny.

sdba069
02-05-2006, 09:58 PM
I'll have the advanced Qwikdata. I have sort of a dealer deal with them and sell them for about the same price as Jeg's. I've been running them since they came out. Once we got past the teething pains with the sensors, they've been great. We learned pretty quick, not to attach them directly to anything mounted solid in the boat, or car, as far as that goes. I mount them remotely and suspend them to protect them from shock, not electrical.

2-R's:
So I now know the skinny on whose boat it is...!
Make sure you put his seat a little lower in the new boat than his old one! Sorry that we're losing a M/E boat in the process, but damn happy for Team *e*e*.
Guess you heard the news about the banquet.....3 to 1 against going to MF as a co-points race.....I've been telling them that nobody wanted to do those co-points deals and now they know!

Hey Bert, anytime. They are being built up in NW Arkansas by the guy who used to build Condor boats. We did a buy in to get dealer pricing. If you need info, give me a call. The contact info is on my website.

Hey 1R...... The old Cheyenne is for sell, so hopefully someone fairly local can pick up on it and keep it going. I've had a few calls on the banquet deal. From what I hear, with the exception of the Habeeb security guards at the hotel, it went pretty well. I've been off the board now for 3 years and it's funny, but I remember that one of the last issues that we voted on while I was there, was whether or not to do any more copoints races with IHBA. It was decided upon unanamously that we would not do any more copoints races, basically due to the MF fiasco from previously that year. The dust hadn't settled good after I left the board, when the next year's schedule came out with copoints races listed. Never did understand that, but I guess it doesn't matter. Glad it's done, now. I guess the parking issues were also resolved.

Cheyenne372
02-06-2006, 02:24 PM
Don't think that the parking issue was resolved at all. Here's what I heard as I sat in the crowd, but I've was accused of taking the words of the board too literally!
If I get there first and want to hold a place for the 5 or 6 that ALWAYS park with me, they ALL have to be pre-paid or I cannot reserve spots for them....unless you pony up their entry fee money for them.
A questionaire will be sent out and you are to submit the amount of space and number of vehicles that you will be bringing. Make sure you are a member or you might not get one.
The board will lay out the pits and park you in the space that they assign for you.
If people sleep in it, it will cost you $25.00 to park it in the pits.
If it didn't drive through the gate pulling the boat, but it us used to put the boat in and out of the water, it will cost you $25.00.
Sorry...not the right place to post this, but you asked!
Go Team Petey!

where do you guys plan on racing this thing?
also, how hard do the PGJ's at SDBA run?
thanks

sdba069
02-06-2006, 09:10 PM
We run strictly SDBA. Paul and Marilyn make a race or two out here with the "Head Over Heels' boat and you know how they run. Jeremy Dickerson is the only one out here who has run a gearbox and I think he ran fairly respectable, though I don't remember his numbers. I say that, but I think Ledford may have fooled with one a little and Robbie Barrett tried one also before he got out of the PGJ thing. Mike Ledford is supposed to have both his Cheyenne and Edge running this year with gearboxes. If we have a few PGJ's show up then we tend to start drawing them out of the woodwork. A lot of our guys don't care much for the PCE deal, including us, but we'll have to run it if we are going to run. Hopefully, we can get a handle on ours pretty quick, but who knows.

I want to say I heard that Dickerson guy ran really low 8s.
Thanks for all the replys and good luck with everything, hope to hear/see more as it comes along.

Gary - How much Hp do you think you'll lose running a gear box? I think Keith said at one time they felt they were losing somewhere around 60 in the 'Biz' ... That sound about right to you?

sdba069
02-07-2006, 07:41 AM
I really hadn't thought about it that much. HP loss as compared to the overall gains accomplished from allowing the engine to turn near optimum RPM and running an impeller that is more efficient leaving will offset quite a bit. I remember the old Casale underdrive boxes and they seemed to really sap the HP. I understand that Ledford is going to have one of those in his Cheyenne this year and an Owen's in the Edge.

"allowing the engine to turn near optimum RPM and running an impeller that is more efficient leaving"
That I agree with ... Wouldn't it be better to just build a motor to do that and eliminate the gear box or is it that your going to run a high winder you already have? Not criticizing ... Just Curious.
Boat looks Great ... If we weren't running what we're running and being able to do what we're able to do, we'd be running one of Erv's Light Weight Cheyenne's.

In PGJ, we have the 500 cu in limit. To be competetive, you probably need to make better than 1250 HP. At 500 cu in., to make that much power, it would be in the 8500 RPM up range, and that's a little on the low side. Our Olds RPM is quite a bit higher than that. A guy from Houston that used to run PGJ spent an unbelievable amount of money on a Pontiac to make it run without the gearbox and never ran lower than mid 8.40's. I did the pump in the boat and it had a pretty nice keel in it. I think he was turning the motor about 7600 with a C- impeller. That may not be exactly right, but close.
